sadie has started continually scratching recently and she is becoming red, she has always had some sort of allergies and we have had testing done but nothing stood out, things were borderline. she is currently eating solid gold Holistique Blendz with a tablespoon of acv, and the recommended amount of missing link she also has piriton twice a day. we are seeing the skin specialist in 5 days time (earliest appointment i could get). 2 days ago i bathed her with Coatex Medicated Shampoo, is there anything i could do to help her in the meantime?

Sounds to me like you're doing everything right. The tests will surely show up something! Take a look at what you use to wash the bedding too!! And take a look at cleaning products you use around the house, sprays etc... :D

Good luck and sending (((healing vibes)))

Good Luck! My boxer and my golden both have allergies so I know how you feel about not being able to figure out what's wrong with them. Don't let your vet put Sadie on Hill's Ultra Allergen ZD. I didn't know until I joined BW in October that it had Carcinogens in it! Keep us posted!

so is there anything you would recommend to apply to sooth her until the appointment?

Benadryl pills don't seem to relieve my girls but some people have said it has helped their dogs. I'm sure you've tried something like that already though. As far as a topical treatment, I haven't done anything like that because I know she would just lick herself even more.

Maybe cool wet washcloths if sadie is hot?

just thinking that this has started around the time i started giving her cider vinegar and solid gold? could the vinegar be doing it?

Yes, it could be. Dogs can be allergic to absoutely anything. So if there's ever a new treat, or new food item, or something changed around your house (even new laundry detergent) that happens to coincide with the reaction starting, then it's always worth removing that thing and seeing if the reaction goes away.

thanks for the reply debbie! the solid gold food is unlikely to be the culprit? i have had to put a t-shirt on her as she is making herself red raw and she is loosing hair on her front legs.

I'm afraid it could be either :( And throw the missing link into the possibilities mix also - it contains molasses and yeast (as well as quite a few other things).

I would be inclined to cut out all supplements for the moment, and see if that helps at all. If it does, then you could add them back in one at a time to see which one causes the problem.

If ditching the supplements doesn't help, then the food or something environmental must be the cause. I'm afraid that would mean you'd have to go back to looking for another food for her.

just been to see the skin specialist and she has got a skin infection so she is taking "rilexine" twice a day for 3 weeks. in addition to this the specialist recommended giving her "atarax" (antihistamine) 1 twice a day as well as her piriton, she has got "coatex" that she needs to be bathed in every week and "malacetic" to clean her ears, also weekly. he recommended wafcol salmon & potato or eukanuba dermatosis (fish & potato), any one know about the last one?
