They are left alone together during the day. We have seen some dominance by our shepherd but it's always just been the typical "I'm boss and you're not" behavior. Nothing abnormal for dogs. I should find a way to record them or sneak in on them somehow during the day to see what they're up to...

Glad it's a medical problem and not behavioral! Ask your vet about changing her diet. If she has crystals in her urine, like ours does, she may need to change her diet to a more acidic diet, less alkaline, to reduce the pH in her urine. I was told that the crystals are not a temporary thing...
