    Hodie won't eat

Quick update on this situation: Hodie let me hand feed him most of his dinner in the presence of the puppy (who we've now named Daisy.) She snapped up the few pieces of kibble that he dropped. I put his bowl down so that he might eat the rest on his own time, but he didn't touch it. BUT...

    Hodie won't eat

Hello all. We got a new puppy and we're finding a few things with our older dog that seem odd to me. Any advice would be great! We brought a 12 week boxer puppy home on Tuesday and we think we did everything right. We had Hodie (also a boxer, he's almost 3 years old) meet her on neutral...

Not your typical request for toy recommendations

Thanks for that, BadAxe. Goughnuts, RMBs, and PB covered antlers are now on the menu!

Not your typical request for toy recommendations

Wow, some really great suggestions here. I'm happy to report that the antler/peanut butter mixture went over HUGE! In fact, Hodie is happily gnawing away at it right now. I'll definitely try some of the other ideas, just to give him some variety and I'll definitely pick up a Goughnut ASAP...

Not your typical request for toy recommendations

Peanut butter on the antler! I hadn't thought of that. I'm going to try it tonight. Hodie's got a Nylabone and a Kong, but it's almost as if he's not interested in anything he can't destroy. This is my second boxer and my first one, Cocoa (RIP, Coconut), preferred to carry her toys around as...

Not your typical request for toy recommendations

It appears that Hodie is a "spirited" chewer, and as he's gotten older, I've had to up the ante on the toughness of his toys. Well, I'm out of ideas. The latest toy that I got him was a 9 on the manufacturer's 10 point toughness scale. He chewed a boxer-mouth sized hole in it in about 45...

    How much to feed?

Hodie definitely has the "lanky kid" look that young boxers have, so if I've been overfeeding, it sure isn't evident from looking at him. I'll cut back on the amount that I've been feeding, at least until the snow clears enough that he can get some real exercise!

    How much to feed?

Great info! I'll cut back the portions a bit, I think. Hodie's not fat by any stretch, but I have to wonder how much food is just going through him "unused." Thanks for all the help!

    How much to feed?

I reread what I wrote, and it does sound pretty unclear. Sorry about that! I'll try again... Hodie is eating 15 pounds of food every 12-14 days. If 2 cups is sufficient, then I've been WAY overfeeding him. He goes through about 3 cups a day, which according to the bag is right on target...

    How much to feed?

Howdy all. Hodie has been on TOTW for about 4 months now, and had been doing well with it for the most part. He doesn't eat all that I put down for him every day, but his bowl is empty after mealtime most of the time. My issue is this: no matter how much/little he eats, I'm going through a...

    Nova Program

I caught that by accident on PBS a few weeks ago (I have a four year old, so PBS is on a LOT.) It was absolutely fascinating! I'll second the recommendation, it made a huge difference in how I communicate with Hodie, and even in the way that I view his communication with other people and dogs.

Crating my pup while I'm in the room

Thanks so much for the help, folks. I've been doing very short "settle" sessions with Hodie this week, and he seems to sloooowly be getting it. Yahoo! Also, deer antlers are on the way!

Crating my pup while I'm in the room

I hadn't thought about rewarding him for being calm (probably because it's such a rare occurrence) but I'll get cracking on that today. That may just be the magic bullet I need! Sansal-I've tried all kinds of crazy toys, Kongs included. I'm not sure I could handle being in a room with a...

Crating my pup while I'm in the room

Hello all. I've got the luxury of working at home, so Hodie is literally never alone during the week unless I've gone to bed. His crate is in my office (this will be significant in a minute) and he goes out for about 20 minutes every two hours or so to pee, poop, harass the squirrels, etc...

Update..Please post weight and age of your dog

Hodie was 17.1 pounds at exactly 9 weeks. I think he may have a future as one of the Budweiser Clydesdales.
