Zeke was bitten on Friday right on the neck by my neighbors chow. The dog was going after me while I was trying to get the mail. Zeke stepped in front of me and got bit. He still has the bitemarks in his neck. The bite did break the skin and we took Zeke to the vet. We have to watch for infection. The vet had me report the chow to animal services. My neighbors are giving us dirty looks now. The neighbor is actually a police officer. You would think he would now better. This chow has bitten a child before. It takes until the 3rd complaint for anything to happen.

When Zeke is pottying in our back yard the chow will growl at him and ram the vinyl fence so the fence actually moves.

I am just upset that they don't keep this dog put up.

Poor Zeke. He was just trying to protect you. I can't believe it takes 3 bites to get anything done. It just seems that one may be a fluke but twice is definitely a pattern. The police oficer should definitely know better, but then of course he knows the 3 bite rule too.

Healing vibes for Zeke. Such a brave boy. Give him extra special loves for his bravery, as if you aren't already.

being that the owner is a police officer, maybe you could report him to his superior officer??? Hope Zeke is doing okay now!! I think I've actually seen that Chow - - I PM'd ya!

How scary that must have been for you! And how rude of the neighbors to be acting that way now! Hope Zeke baby is ok!

A friend of mine's 6 year-old daughter was bitten in the face by her grandparents chow. She had to have surgery and they said that she is lucky she didn't lose her eye. The police came and took the dog and he was put to sleep a few days later because it was his 3rd complaint! That's right - he had bitten one adult and one child before it ripped open their granddaughter's face. Please be careful Panhorst and Zeke.

I have a scar on my hand from a Chow bite when I was a kid. My Aunt had a beautiful Chow but he was not friendly at all!! He bit for no reasons..many times. He bit me while I was sitting at the kitchen chair with my hand hanging down to my side. He walked behind me..lunged my hand and bit! It freaked me out!! My Aunt ended up eventually having his teeth removed to prevent the biting!! Now there is one that lives in a house where my daughters bus stop is...and he's not friendly either. He is tied to the front porch and his leash just reaches an inch before the sidewalk!! Very scary and intimidating! I have to say...my least trustworthy breed.

Poor Zeke, he´s a hero for protecting you!!!!!!! It´s amazing how many times a dog can go around biting other dogs and even people before something happens. I hope the third time the dog bites it will be his own owners........ And it probably will be as that dog has a really abnormal behaviour.

Good idea to report your neighbour to his superior officer as Evie & Adam wrote......this man should not have a dog if he can´t make sure it doesn´t run around biting!!!

My second boxer had a playmate who was a chow. Her name was Miss Sally and she was the sweetest girl, but when she was tired of playing or not in the mood she could let you know with a look to back off! I would give her treats throught he fence when I was playing with Rocky and she would take them gently. In her later years she bit another dog, a friends lab. She was grouchy and her parents mentioned this during a vet visit. The vet ran a series of test and found a large tumor in her head. It was removed (she had the most crazy half head of hair for a while). She went through 8 months of meds and chemo, but was put to sleep due to her deterioration. I still miss that crazy girl.

Could this possibly be something that you could talk to the owner about. His attitude may be coming from his frustration as I am sure he more than knows the severity of his dogs actions. Put yourself in this owners shoes and try to be understanding...but watch out as he may just be an unresponsible owner and I wouldn't want for you or Zeke to get hurt. Give Zeke a big hero kiss from me!

Cosworth got attacked by a Chow at the dog park not too long ago. They always seem to be trouble when they are there. They are hyper-dominate and just generally not very nice. Not my favoriate dog either.
