I have a 5 month old boxer, and my boyfriend mom fed him two hamburgers ( i was very upset when i found this out ! ) He now has bad diarrhea, and sometimes is just letting liquids out. I hate to see him in hurting :( When this happened last time, i took him to the vet and they gave him a prescription. I heard non-fat yogurt is good for dogs, but how much can i feed him?

Plain yoghurt (doesn't need to be low fat - but it does need to be unsweetened) aids digestion in dogs much the same way as in people. That is, by boosting stocks of the sorts of good bacteria that help digestive processes. In amounts, about a tablespoon is plenty, every now and then.

However, it's not really a cure for upset tummies. The 'general cure' for that is fasting 24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice (or oatmeal, or mashed potato) for a day or two, gradually transitioning back to his normal food. It doesn't have to be chicken - could be beef, or another meat, as long as it's lean. That should be roughly a 50/50 blend of meat to rice/oatmeal, and up to 1lb (cooked weight) per meal.

Dogs don't need sugar in their diets (particularly if you don't brush their teeth daily). Artificial sweeteners like aspartame must be avoided because they are toxic to dogs.

Thanks for the answer! I figured they didn't need the extra sugar but I thought it might be something else too! :0)

Thanks again!

I feed yogurt with their food morning and night now. They seem to love to eat much more now, and eat without being told :) which makes dad happy too! Also, it makes the whole family happy that it helps with their gas!

I have had very good results with canned pumpkin and goats milk yogurt. Maggie was very sick when I got her. Her stools were pure liquid. She was weaned too soon and was on a very low quality kibble. I gave her brown rice with Canidae, canned pumkin and goats milk yogurt 4-5 times a day. She was better in about two days. I now do not feed either of my babies anything with corn, wheat, or soy products.....we have had no problems for 7 months now.

Good luck!!!!
