Dixie got sprayed by a skunk last night and somehow managed to get into the house. Everything in our house smells so bad. My eyes and nose are still burning, and now that I'm at work I can smell it on me! I used tomato juice and natures way skunk odor remover and dixie's face is still pungent. It was the worst night ever, and I'm sure when I get home it will still be horrible.

In my area the Petco's have a de-skunking for the dog for about $12- last time we were there a woman reeking of skunk brought her dog in at about 8:30-9 PM to be de-skunked. They opened the grooming room for her... I thought it was nice. But possibly bring her to a place like that- they guarantee no more smell. Once the dog is deskunked you can start working on yourself and your house.

Thanks for the input. I just called the vet and she told me to mix 1 quart of hydrogen peroxide with 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 tsp of Dawn detergent. I couldn't stand the smell on my hands so I took a break and purchased the ingredients. To my surprise my hands are scent free! beericon Now my wife is going to try it on the dogs. If that doesn't work I'll definitely be heading to Petco, especially if they guarantee no smell. Thanks again

The smell will probably be gone in no time at all, and you'll all be sitting around laughing about it. What a funny story to tell (in the future anyway ;))

You may have seen the show on Discovery channel called Mythbusters. They 'scientifically' try all sorts of experiments on urban legends and other folklore. The last one I saw was about de-skunking. The homemade mix your vet suggested did the best job, followed by tomato juice. The store-bought mixes did nothing!

They used the baking soda mix to clean a bathroom that had been skunked and a test 'sniffer' could tell no skunk odor when they were through.
