I don't know where to begin but I just wanted to tell you all abou this. I have very bad stomach/intestinal problems. Not all the time but it comes in bouts. Well, this past weekend I had a problem with it. The pain is so intense and hurts like you are seriously giving birth but no baby. There is really nothing to ease the pain once it starts and it ALWAYS happens in the middle of the night when everyone is asleep. It started with me on Saturday night and I fought thru it and layed around on Sunday and rested. Well, Sunday night around 11pm it started back up again full force. I knew it was going to happen so I tried to stay awake hoping that I could somehow trick it into going away if I was awake. That didn't work the pain started. Everyone asleep except me and Heidi. Heidi layed on the floor and alot of times if I lay on the floor curled up in a ball it lessens the pain somewhat. So I layed there curled up in a ball and Heidi layed down next to me. I wrapped my arms around her and held her tightly hoping to ease the pain. She didn't move she was just what I needed and it made me feel better. I was so glad just to have her there at that moment. Everyone else was asleep but Heidi was there to help me.

I know the exact pain you are talking about... Only people that suffer from it can even relate! I often have the same reaction often times during the night from my IBS (its like it waits for you to be relaxing)... The only thing that dulls the pain away for me is to bounce my legs really hard (like if you had a baby on your lap and you were bouncing it), it must loosen the intestines or something...

Anyways, Its good to have a companion during those times. Jasmine is usually laying by the door and I'll talk to her so I don't feel completely alone (my husband dosent even notice I'm out of bed, He's a very heavy sleeper). I hope that you are feeling better and that the bouts of pain become less often. I have been prescribed Donnatal Extended Tablets, I take them every time I have that feeling that I'm getting an attack. Talk to your doctor about them, they are a god sent! I no longer am afraid to take long car rides or stay at friends houses (I take one before the car ride or before going out... It seems to prevents the attacks as well).

Good Luck, Give Heidi a big hug for me for being such a good snuggle bug!!

I made an appointment to see the doc. I've never been about this problem but it seems to be getting worse. I know my mom suffers from it but hers is not IBS. I figured I am just going to be the lucky one to inherit her problems. :( . It's bad enough now though I need to find some kind of solution and I will ask the doc about Donnatal tabs. I do feel much better now..it only took about 3days to feel like myself again. That's great huh! Thanks for your help! I will give Heidi a big hug!

I totaly can sympathize with you and Tysonsway. I've suffered with IBS for years and went through so many tests and drs. before getting real help. The Donnatol is a godsend and I use those Thermacare heat patches when it gets really bad. The warmth helps to relax things a good bit.
Pooh was my heating pad for awhile after my surgery last years. They found a lot of adhesions that were contributing to mine. It Was better for almost a year and now has started to flare up again. I hope the dr. is able to help you feel better.

I wondered about using a heating pad..I will try that too. It's so strange that so many people suffer from this but there is really no cure. I read about it on the net and so many people seem so desperate and hopeless..I hope I can get mine under control so I don't ever really feel that way. I can completely understand though..the pain is so bad it could make you go crazy..especially if it was an everyday thing and stopping you from living/enjoying daily life. I've even tried to tell myself the pain was in my head..how could this hurt so bad..I quickly ruled that out though when I couldn't stand up straight to walk.
I appreciate all of your thoughts! :)

It's actually very common but not something alot of people talk about. I have it as well. You definitly want to go to your doctor just to rule out more digenerative conditions like chrons or colitis. I went through ALL the tests about 5 years ago and I swear if one more doctor tells me I just need to take fiber I will scream. Unless you suffer from it you really don't understand it at all. Funny what you said about the giving birth, I just had my first baby in August and I really didn't think it was that painful and I'm sure it has alot to do with mastering breathing techniques from suffering from IBS for the last 10 years.
There are also alot of books that can help you manage it through diet and nutrition.
Glad that Heidi is there for you, our boxers can bring such comfort.

I'm glad your baby was there to help make you feel better.
My first thought though when I read about your pains, you say it only happens at night? and you have to crouch in a ball to kind of ease the pain? I had the exact same symptoms but mine were gall bladder attacks. I'd definately have that checked with an ultrasound. I hope you get it figured out and feel better.

Isn't wonderful to have your baby there for you when you're in need! I was crying tonight watching TV, and Herkie came up and started giving kisses....they always know just what we need. Way to go Heidi appicon. And I hope you get to the Dr to get checked out soon, I know living with that sort of pain can't be any fun. Please make an appt ASAP.
