Why did he do this?

I have been trying to let me bring our puppy Kozmo, who is 4 1/2 months old to bed with us at night for a couple of weeks. My husband is draging his feet because we already have 1 65lb boxer sleeping with us and he is trying to prolong the second as long as possible.

Anyway I finally talked him into it last nightappicon. So while I'm closing up the house for the night, my husband and the dogs get in bed and ready for the night. I go to crawl in and it is soaking wet:eek: Kozmo had pee'ed on the bed. Well that was the end of that. It will take me months to talk the hubby back into letting him back in bed with us.

Why did he do this? Was he just so excited. Needless to say my baby will be sleeping in his crate at night for awhile longer:o

No idea why they do it but if it is any comfort you are not alone. Lucy did the same thing to us about 2 months ago (she was 3 months old at that time) and DH still won't let her back in the bed at night. She gets to come in for some snuggling after she goes out early in the morning if we don't need to be up right away. So far she has not done it again.

Are you sure it was Kos? Could it have been the other boxer marking the bed as his territory?

Otherwise, if it was Kos, I'd say it was a combination of excitement and perhaps claiming rights to a new territory. Marking it to make it his as well.

Quinsi did this to us also. It wasn't bed time but we let him back in our bedroom (usually an "off" area for him) while we were back there cleaning and he pee'd on it. We waited a little while before trying it again and he did it again even though it was a couple months later. He was neutered by the time he got his first "romp" in our bedroom so I don't think it was marking. I'm still willing to bet it's because he was SO excited to be in a new place and it just got the better of him. (plus we have a waterbed, I'm sure the noise of the water didn't help )

Last week I decided to try it again. I kept a really good eye on him and he just rolled around and eventually laid down. I'd like to get him to realize that the bed is "ni ni" time and time to settle down. Right now he's still too excited but at least twice now he hasn't pee'd.

Give him time.. and a couple more months to grow up. Maybe you can take him out to potty and then take him back to your bedroom and see what happens. Not at bedtime obviously... try it throughout the day...
