Where should we put his crate?

I have always put the puppies we get in bed and slowly move them to the floor/crate to their own bed/den. A puppy is used to feeling mommy/litter mate heart beat. If you do the crate, it usually takes puppies a week to two weeks to adjust. I have had more luck moving them to floor after they get certain age.

Charlie still sleeps in bed with us. Of course this is my own doing because I never enforced him sleeping in the dog bed, but who doesn't want a big 80 lb slobbering, snoring blanket?
