Tigers Mom
Boxer Pal
We have just moved from Australia to Virginia (McLean, just outside DC) and our beautiful boxer baby, Tiger, flew over to join us a couple of weeks ago. We always fed him raw meat and bones in Australia, but we haven't been able to find chicken necks in any of the supermarkets locally.
We have been giving him ground beef and turkey (human grade, not pet mince), but there isn't sufficient bone content in that to ensure his poop is easy to pick up and dispose of. We have also been giving him chicken backs and split breasts with the bone intact, but we would really like to go back to the ease of chicken necks with the occasional minced beef and offal treats (lambs hearts were his favourite in Oz but I'm not sure we can get those here either).
If anybody can suggest where we can buy good raw meat and bones for dogs, or good alternatives that are readily available in US supermarkets we would be very grateful (and so would Tiger).
For anybody reading this who doesn't feed their boxer raw food and is interested to know if it is a good idea or not, our fella was switched to raw at about 6 months old because he shared a back yard with our young kids and we didn't want them to have to dodge his massive piles of waste - the difference once we switched was incredible. Small, firm, barely smelly and infrequent poops and a very healthy, happy and energetic dog with a super shiny coat and fantastic teeth (and that was the vet's assessment when we asked her to check that all was well with him after switching his diet). It is also very affordable compared to good quality kibble brands and very easy to prepare if you stick to raw and not cooked meats.
