Lately I have been using 2 vets. The long wait vet is very cheap. He doesn't charge any office fee. Most vets around here charge $15-$20 just to walk in the door. He gives shots and worming for $15, ear crop (this includes meds, and stitch removal) is $45, tail dock and dew claw removal is $1 a pup, spay $35, neuter $30. All meds my dogs have ever needed are $5 or less. I used to always use him when my dogs would get sick also. He treated Tyson's kennel cough, for an injection and a week of antibiotics was $10. I recently started using another vet for more complicated things (Sheeba's hair loss, Pru's confused heat cycles). The long wait vet seems to rush through and doesn't explain stuff very well. The new vet takes their time and asks if I have any questions. She is more expensive but it's worth it. I told her about our other vet and she said he is a good vet but is more for vacinations and knows more about farm animals. I like both vets very much and I feel better because when something is wrong with one of my dogs I have someone I can trust to get a second opinion. I will continue to use the cheap vet for shots and to purchase their heartguard. I plan to use the other vet for check ups and sickness.
As for the long wait, I always enjoy it. It's very entertaining to watch other dogs and their owners and I could never get tired of all the compliments I recieve, about how well behaved my dogs are and how pretty they are, while waiting.
