When do Boxers become protective?

I agree that different dogs may act differently. Brutus has always barked at the door and at people outside the house. He evens runs to the dog and barks when we say stranger. I dont think he would ever do anything if someone broke in but is a confident dog who wants to be in charge of his surroundings.

Amaya barks at Bru or while playing but has not barked at the door or people yet. She is a bit timid and I think she would rather hide than protect. Different dogs act differently. My dogs are 360' apart in personalities.

I wanted Debo to be protective, but he's a "kidney bean mess", but I kind of like that, because I don't have to "worry" (though ALWAYS careful) so much about kids playing and people over and when we go to the regular park, if nobody is there, I will let him loose, and if somebody does happen to approach us, I don't have to worry about Debo "attacking" - I can casually put his collar back on and continue our walk.

I like what Tom said about alerting. I do think their presence is good enough, Debo hasn't started that yet though. (Sigh) I guess I'll just have to add another Boxer Baby to our home...

my 19 month old jake is very protective of me and my children, but if my husband is around jake is off duty !! i am a stay at home mom so jake goes with me when i take the kids to and from school , living in a big city we often run into pan handlers at major intersections, needless to say they no longer approuch my car .
