One of the girls I work with is getting married next weekend and will not be returning to work. A few of us had a farewell lunch for her today since some of us will be out the rest of the week for the holidays. We were talking about dogs since she and her fiancé would like to get one soon. One of the girls at lunch has a boxer mix and asked her what she thought about boxers. She said that she can’t stand them. She said that they are weird and that they give people strange looks (well, sure they do…you ARE weird if you don’t like boxers). I almost fell out of my chair. I know I can’t say anything because I have perhaps the most aggressive boxer on the planet but most boxers are such darlings (Beau is unless strangers are around). I told her that they aren’t like any other dogs and they do things that other dogs don’t do. She said that’s the main reason she doesn’t like them (they “freak her out”)! I told her that I will never go another day in my life without a boxer. I have never seen a dog so excited to see someone as Beau is every single day when I get home. She looked at me like I was crazy when I told her how he jumps up and down like a goofball when he sees me. His smooshy face just brightens my day. The two girls in my office that have boxer mixes absolutely adore them. We all treat them like our children. A lot of the people I work with think I’m nuts because I talk to my boys, let them sleep in my bed and even wrap their Christmas presents. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m just so sad that this girl is missing out on the joy and humor that boxers bring into the lives of their owners. I just had to tell all you crazy boxer lovers because I know you’ll understand!

I have to say that I agree with you. My husband isnt anywhere near as excited to see me after a week out of town, as Mac is to see me after a few hours at work or just after him being at home with his "daddy". MacsMama

I have gotten used to Roxy and Buster receiving a welcome home hug and kiss before me and I can't say anything about it because I do the same thing!

Of course boxers freak her out! They aren't human, yet they aren't dogs. They are tweeners, not like hogs(mixture of the two words, no offense Hogger) that's a different animal, and they're not doumans(that sounds bad too)maybe we should just stick with the term "boxer". Who wouldn't be freaked out by looking at a human in dog form? Ok, Ok, none of us are, but hey, we're all special here at BW. It's one of those life lesson things where until she has one herself, she'll never know what she is missing. Do you think that boxers look at her and think "Man, that lady FREAKS ME OUT!!!? I sure hope so.:)

I like to call them halfbreeds, half human, half dog. And she doesn't know what she is missing!

In a way I find it understandable in that they don't understand... If that makes sense.

On a walk Cosworth will look at everybody that walks by. If they look back he'll stop and stare. If they are friendly he will wiggle like mad and sometimes attempt (occasionally successfully) to leap into their arms. Sometimes it makes the people uncomfortable and they will stear clear. I can imagine how the look could misinterpreted...

He has a good eye though. My sister had problems with her dogs when she had kids (the dogs were aggressive towards the kids) and had to give them up (to a good home! A multi-thousand acre farm whose owners take in dogs). For a while she was very learly around dogs in general including Coz. Then over one Christmas while we were all at my parents' house she was sitting on the couch and Cosworth jumped up next to her and immediately laid his head in her lap. At first she recoiled and raised her hands as if she was going to push him off, but reconsidered mid-air, and instead gave him a little pat on the head and let him be. And that's how they stayed for a good 2 and half hours. It's the only time I've seen Cosworth fall into a deep sleep and dream away from home and when other people are around.

:D

(Since then she just reminded her kids that not every dog is nearly as tollerent as Cosworth so digging around his in food or shining a flash light in his rear-end is straight out.)

The first boxer I met was Daisy, she was so sweet but slobbered like crazy I said I would never get a boxer I hated all the slobber, then I met my SIL Sweetie & just feel in love with her but I did not want any more dogs as I had recently put down my English Springer Spaniel & I had an old Yorkie, well then my DH calls a year ago 12-21-06 & tells me about little Beau needing a new mom as his had just passed,& what an experience,he is the best dog we have ever had & I just adore him
So the girl must not have ever experienced a boxer,as once you do you fall in love

You know, I can understand maybe not liking boxers if you don't like a hyper dog. Tyson tends to be pretty bouncy around friends that come by. It takes a little while for him to calm down before they see what a sweet, funny, smart dog he is. He is getting better with us having more people over lately (his first year and a half we were doing major renovations).

I had a friend the other day tell me as Ty was sitting there staring a hole through him wanting some scraps (which he is never allowed to have) that he hated boxers before because the one person he knew with them didn't discipline them at all. He said you could tell Ty was very well behaved. (As I wiped the drool off Ty's mouth, it made my heart swell that we had converted another boxer lover :) )
