I had read in a boxer book that the boxer's ancestors were two german mastiff type dogs, the bullenbeiszer and the barenbeiszer. Then they were later crossed with the powerful ancestors of the mastiff and the bulldog. That is how the boxer evolved......... Alot of people think they have boston terrior in them and they don't. This is just something I thought might intrest some people. I did alot of research on the boxer breed since I got Sidney. They are very good dogs, but of course if you own one you already know that.

Sorry, I couldn't resist!!!

Actually I read similiar info. The original German dogs used are no longer in existence. But I wasn't clear on how the Bulldog and Mastiff got involved?

If you come up with any more info please post it!

Amy - I have recently read an article in a dog magazine with the same info. I found myself very much interested in this issue. The article said bulldogs were involved also - not English bulldogs like many people think, but German bulldogs.
Sharon - thanks for the website

If you go into the German Boxer Club web site which is: http;//www.bk-muenchen.de/english.htm then click on'German Boxer' in the left column at the bottom, you will come up with a description of the history of the Boxer.
