Hello all... I recently began a search for an organization to volunteer with that works to stop dog-fighting. The problem is escalating in my area (suburb of Atlanta), and I can't continue to be sickened by the stories without doing something to help. I have searched the internet and found rescue groups, humane societies, etc., but I have not found a specific group that is actively working in my area (or nationally) specifically for this cause. Anyone have any ideas of where I should turn? I do not have *tons* of time, but I feel like I need to help where I can... Any ideas?

I don't have any advice for you but just wanted to say that I commend you for wanting to do this.

I would. . .

. . .find someone who is also interested in STOPPING it. Talk to them about putting an organization together in your area. I would also talk to the local police about it and find more information out about it. I think it is a FABULOUS idea:)

I would think that you could start by somehow informing people that this problem exists. I bet you'll find lots of help within the local pit bull rescue. www.pitbullrescue has some good links. I think they stopped operation but have links to other active rescues.

Thanks for the suuggestions. I searched all pit bull rescue org's and found nothing specific for fighting (only adoption and fighting information). I actually called animial control yesterday because I think that a home that I pass on my way to work may be fighting dogs. They have different pits in and out constantly... Anyway, I was told that they can't do anything. So sad... I will keep looking, and if anyone has anymore suggestions I would be VERY appreaciative.

Talk to the news stations...A few years ago there was a story about it locally and they were asking for any information about it. I actually called because a girl I worked with said it happened many nights in her neighborhood but she was too afraid to tell anyone. I gave them what information I could and there was a reporter that was doing his own underground investigation on the whole thing. I never really found out if anything came of it but at least I did what I could.

TracyLynn,

Hi! You are a breve person and I admire you.
My 2 cents is try again the animal control and see if you can to talk to the supervisor and find from him where you can go to get your concerns heard.

Once I called the ASPCA because of a chain letter I received about raisin cats inside a bottle and I was horrifyed, and they said they had looked into it and found out was a hoax...but the first question from them was : do you want to make a complain? so, ...

Sorry I'm in NY city, kindof far to be of more help, but don't stop yours efforts for these poor dogs sake.

And let us know what was the result.
Thank you and have a very good day with a lot of boxer kisses .

Try this sight and do a search by typing in dog fighting. You'll be able to pull up articles from their old publications and they write many on this subject. Hope it helps.
