I have two new girls, 16 weeks old, who are in the same blood line of my first boxer girl, Smokey, who got struck and killed by a motor vehicle while I was at band practice a year ago last May. She always stayed in my friends yard, playing with her best friend Buddy, a red heeler, who was a puppy that made our yard it's home at the same time we brought Smokey home. I fed Buddy with Smokey and my best friend and neighbor ended up adopting him. He is a runner, but Smokey always was under leash or with me and stayed around, even for short periods I'd let her out. I didn't think I could love a dog that much. I was apprehensive about getting another animal due to the pain of her loss, but when our breeder announced he was leaving the state, made the decision to get another boxer of the same blood line as Smokey before he left. Ruby was the first pup to come up to me from the two litters, born to Smokey's mother's sisters (her mother died from a problem litter she had last year). Ruby basically ran up and said 'take me home'. She has white markings on chest, half of face, and socks. Ruby's runt litter sister, black faced, was Addie, who could care less and was more interested in exploring the shop that the breeder let her out from his truck/kennel to show them to me. That's the one my son picked out, so we got two (thinking rather that twice the headaches, they would entertain each other). The girls have been a handful but remind me of why I absolutely love this breed. They are walking with me on the huge lot across from my house, after work, without leashes (except for crossing the street) and stay close while we do four or five laps to burn their energy. Still fighting the house breaking though, but will be looking to the forums for help with that. I've already spoiled them by letting them sleep with me, or they let me sleep with them.....good thing I've got a King size bed. My wife is out of town working, so they are quite the companions in her absence, will be interesting to fit them all in the same bed when the job finishes. So, thanks for your time and I look forward to the board!
