Trouble with cropping?

I had a boxer puppy named Tyson, about three months ago I took him in to get his ears cropped and never seen him again. The vet said that after the surgery he went into shock and died. They tried to bring him back but all attemps failed, he was just to weak. I miss him dearly and I often wonder if the vet was at fault, he said this has never happened before. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your pup. I found the message board before I got my boxer and decided not to crop his ears because I heard several stories where pups died having this procedure done. If I recall correctly there was a type of anesthesia used that gives boxers alot of problems. I can't remember the name but I'm sure someone else on this board will mention it. Perhaps you could check with your vet to see if it was used. Again, very sorry to hear about your baby.

Brandy, I'm so very sorry about Tyson :( I am moving this down to the "Boxer Health Issues and Questions" forum, it will still be open there. Jennifer has been through the same thing and may be able to help you...so very sad... :( Ace is short for Acepromazine.

I have heard of ACE, but unfortunatly it was after Tyson passed that I acquired this information. I was tempted to ask the vet if this was the anethstetic used, but I think it would be to painful for me to deal with. I really miss Tyson and we are looking into getting another boxer. I wanted to wait for a while, but I feel its time. I have a 4year old and she really wants another "Tyson". (She calls ALL boxers "Tyson") Now I know about the dangers, I just wish we didn't have to learn the way we did by losing someone so special!

I am so sorry to hear about Tyson. I know you miss him very much. I think I would ask the vet a few more questions...have you used this vet before? I don't want to sound mean, but I think sometimes, we don't press our vets enough for answers. What did they do with Tyson? Did they let you see him? I don't want to upset you with my questions, but I think you would feel better if you talked with your vet. At least you would know if he did all he could for Tyson. I would most definately ask him what anes. he used.

You know, I'm glad Trish brought this up. Perhaps you could save *another* dogs life. Perhaps the vet does not know about ACE and Boxers. You could do it in a non-threatening manner and possibly educate the whole staff.

Do it for someone else's baby.
