Hi Jess! I have been away from the board for awhile (not by choice!) and I read about your baby Biscuit being attacked by that Chow. 1st, I hope that Biscuit is still improving...I know from your post that the recovery will be slow, but thank God Buscuit survived. 2nd, what has been done to the Chow and the owners? Did you call a lawyer?? Please give us an update. Once again, thank God Buscuit survived, and I will say a little prayer for ya'll!

Eva

Hello Eva,

Biscuit is improving with each day. She still has a long way to go but keeps getting better. The chow is going to be put to sleep biting the police officer was his strike three. He will be put to sleep after his ten day holding period. At first I was devesated about this but after the life this dog has had it is probably for the best. I don't think he could ever be made to be a normal loving companion. He has to much fear and hate and I don't think he could ever overcome that. It still makes me sad that his life will be ended but I take comfort in knowing he will no longer suffer. His owners have agreed to pay a quarter of her medical bills rather then go to court and have also signed a statement agreeing they will not own another dog. The agreement was drawn up by my lawyer and if they get another dog they must make a $5,000.00 dollar donation to the humane society and I could opt to take them to court to recover the rest of Biscuits vet bill plus sue for pain and suffering and if I win they would also have to pay all court costs. They are getting off fairly easy for the most part as Bis vet bills will probably run between $6,000.00 and $7,000.00 dollars when all is said and done but she is worth every cent as I don't beleive in putting down an animal because of the cost of making them better if it cost $20,000 I would still do it she is my baby and I love her dearly. Thank you so much for your concern everyone on this board has been so wonderful.

I am so very happy to hear that Biscuit is still improving! Yea!! :D

And I am thrilled to hear that those terrible owners can never own another dog again!!! I completely agree that you not only saved at least one dog from such a terrible life, but you saved several people and dogs from more bites, and possibly their lives as well!! Biscuit is very lucky to have such a very loving and wonderful mom!!

Glad everything turned out okay and good for you making them sign that they would never own another dog.

One more question though - did the woman end up leaving her husband? I take it she didn't as you used "they" in your reply. Just curious.

She has not left him but I do believe that he must go to counciling for both domestic abuse and also for his drug and alcohol use as part of his conditions of release. I still would rather see her get out but only she can make that choice.
