I have a 2.5year old male and a 12 week old female and we have just switched the baby from the food she was on to the male's TO Lamb and Venison (and the switch went great). I just found a thread where one of the moderators mentioned that TOs Lamb and Venison is a bit too low in protein for puppies. What should I do? I like having them on the same food for simplicity sake but I don't want her to miss out on protein (and brother has significant food allergies to any poultry and is doing great on the Lamb and Venison). Should I mix in a higher protein TO food to hers (I'm sure she'd love it, she'll eat anything)--and should it be just one of the other foods like the Whitefish or should I mix in a bit of the high protein foods (like BATM--and I know this shouldn't be used as the puppy food but since it will only be a few tablespoons, the mix of high and low will average out to moderate)--or should I do a second switch (in the 2 weeks we've had her) over to the Whitefish or another TO not high protein food. Can anyone help with my dilemma? Thanks in advance....

For puppies, ideally you want a food that's around 24-26% protein. If the kibble you're feeding is below that, it's not the end of the world - you can add to her diet, after all. Adding in extras such as canned food (preferably 100% or close to that meat content, not grains), fresh meat (raw or lightly cooked), the occassional whole egg, a little cottage cheese now and again, a can of sardines or mackeral once a week... Well, that sort of thing. It's real food (which is good) and high in good quality protein. That can compensate nicely for a kibble that's a little on the low side.

If you don't want to feed anything else but kibble though, then it would probably be wise to switch to a different formula that's a little more appropriate for pups. Timberwolf have several that fit requirements, so it doesn't even need to be a different brand.

Thanks, that sounds like great advice. I like to feed other add ins and I think I could make that work. I'll do that to bump her protein. Thanks for your advice, as always it's information from here that keeps my boxer babies happy and healthy!
