Hi Everyone,

So last night was the 4th night in a row my poor little guy woke us up in the middle of the night vomitting. He usually throws up once and then will have two or three dry heaving episodes shortly thereafter, then goes back to sleep. I don't know what is going on or why he has started doing this. In the past, this has happened periodically, maybe once every month or so, but never chronically like this. He is such a good boy, he will wake me up and run downstairs to try to make it outside to throw up :(
My other concern is that in the beginning of November, he had a MCT removed, it took a long time for his incision to heal, but it finally has, now we have this. PLEASE help!!!!
Thank you sooooo much and Happy Holidays!

What is he vomitting up? Is it undigested food, partially digested food, or just bile/stomach juices?

The 1st night it was mostly frothy bile, this was about 4:55am.
The 2nd night it was a little food and mostly clear, syrum-ey type liquid around 3:30am.
Last night, at about 2:30 am it was digested food, but it was green, but not the color of bile.
I am thinking of calling the vet, but I know his first line of defense will be to switch him to a bland diet and give him pepto, which I am going to start today...
I am just really nervous after the MCT removal, could the two be linked? He seems to act normal, still wants to eat, pee, poop, drink water (although he seems to be drinking more water lately. I am just getting so frustrated and sad, it is like one thing after another and he is only 3 1/2 years old, I feel like, what will he be like in two or three more years?

I'd give a vet a call. If he's throwing up bile and green-coloured food, it sounds as though something's not right there. Not the average tummy upset that's likely to be fixed with a bland diet anyway (and you could let the vet know you've already started that also).

ASk the vet about pancreatitis or another form of liver disease.

Our Memphis started vommitting every day and night and we could not figure out what was going on . When we took him to the vet and they did his bloodwork (twice) everything kept coming back normal. The vet told me that he just ate something bad and it was passing through his system. Well he started drinking alot of water and started to refuse food altogether. Finally on the 3rd set of bloodwork it came back that he had increased liver enzymes.

We tried to treat it medically and it was not getting any better so our vet suggested surgery. When Memphis went to surgery we found out that he had cancer.

Not to say this is what is wrong with Tyson, but the moral of the story is, even if your vet is telling you that it is something that will pass, if Tyson is not getting any better you need to pressure your vet to do more tests to investigate further. Unfortunately, it was too late for Memphis and we had to let him go on 12/5/07.

Just keep on your vet, ours kept telling us it would pass, but Memphis was not getting any better.

I am sure Tyson is ok, but be persistent.

I am saying prayers your way and all the best for Tyson.

Keep us posted.

Quincy began vomiting at approx 4 am each day. The vet thought he had a very fast metobolism and suggested he be given a snack, such as a large milkbone, prior to bed so that his stomach was not empty. It worked for Quin. Hopefully, Tyson's problem is something just as simple.

Our Brinks is 18 wks old, and has been doing the same thing for the last three nights. He and I are both exhausted from not sleeping :(. The first night was fothy pit, the second night was practically nothing, and tonight it was yellowy bile. He had his regular check up yesterday and our vet was not at all concerned. He seems a little uncomfortable while it's going on, but is totally fine afterwards and fine all day. I think I'll try the bedtime snack and see if that helps. He has been sleeping through the night since he was abut 11 weeks! Why do these dogs only do this in the middle of the night?
