here is a list of things I simply was not going to do with Eli.

  • no feeding when I was eating items in crinlkly bags
  • he was going to eat at his specified time not when he thought was time. George had decided 4:00 was dinner time early in his life and the world would just end if he hadn't eaten by then.
  • no going thru the grocery bags looking for his "special" and the list goes on

Can you guess which I have broken and done anyway

Do you have a list of "no no's" that became yeses

haha love this! I am guessing the no feeding while you were eating out of crinkly bags is the one that fell through... :)

My list:
-no getting on furniture, this lasted about 3 months (and then we had to buy a bigger bed because Hurricane is a bed hog!)

-no feeding from the table (my rule, that I still follow, but DH ignored me completely and now Hurricane begs shamelessly, sigh)

-no feeding from counter tops or while preparing dinner on counter tops (to discourage counter surfing) this one is still intact!!!!

No sleeping in our bed lasted until dog #3.
No getting on the furniture failed at dog #4, our first boxer :)

I said I wasn't going to let Rocky get on the furniture, and that we'd NEVER let him in bed with us. FAIL

I said I wouldn't feed him human food ever. Only dog kibble. FAIL (although this one i'm okay with- i learned from BW that you CAN properly give your dogs healthy food)

I said I wouldn't be the crazy person who is in love with their dog and throws them stupid birthday parties. FAIL

So yea. I pretty much failed at everything.

He's just SOOO CUTE.

He is learning his manners, but is so spoiled already. If Grace or Phoebe take his toy he comes to me and barks then stares "like mom do SOMETHING". He has serious addiction to vanilla wafers. He sees the box and goes thru all his tricks starting with sit right thru to the pittiful sigh and whine

Mmmmmmmm well no dog on the furniture lasted with boxer no 1 but went out the window when boxer no 2 came along, then they both got up on the furniture.

No dogs on the bed was only ever a theory..............

No dogs in the bed lasted till boxer no 4 who burrows under our covers at 5.30 every morning :D

Not being fed our food has however lasted the course appicon Not being fed 2 year old sons food though is a whole other story dohicon

Technically, this isn't a rule I put down but my dad did. I've been living with my folks this summer to conserve money and had to comply to some of their wishes. What he said was that there was to be absolutely no dogs on the furniture under any circumstances. Fast forward a couple months and Farah's sprawled out on the couch, bed, what have you. In the evenings, my dad usually sits in his lazy boy chair and watches TV. Farah then walks over to the chair, puts her paws up on the edge and gives him a look like, "Can I come up?? Pleaaase". And my dad positively caves in. The last few nights, after I've taken her out for the last time at 1 am, she's run to my parents bedroom and jumped onto their bed instead of following me like a good girl. It's made for a very scary surprise for them, haha.

Another rule I had was I wasn't going to give her any human food scraps. Her cute wrinkled face is just too hard to resist and I've caved in many times. Usually just small pieces of chicken and fruit though.

I have kept the one about her only sleeping in her crate at night though. It's cute now to have her sleep with you at night but I don't think I'd want her in my bed when she's full grown. Plus, it's helped get her used to the crate so she doesn't mind being in it during the day.

No dogs on the couch - that didn't last - boxers are just too cuddly

No dogs on the bed - intact - no way I'm going to share my sleeping space with a big husband and a boxer

No feeding from the table. Total failure. I'm a total sucker when he comes and puts his head on my lap. I just can't resist passing him a bit.

One thing I'm working on is trying to get Jake to understand that we get to sleep late on the weekends. If he sleeps in, I know he's not feeling good because he generally wants his breakfast at 5 a.m. every morning.

No dogs on the couch. Lasted until he was old enough to jump on the couch by himself (4 months old).

No dogs in the bed. We aren't really sure when this one ended....DH and I would both let Johann snuggle with us in bed (work opposite shifts, I sleep during the day most of the time). But, we now regularly find him chilling on our bed and are always picking dog hair off the pillows. He won't sleep in the bed with us though, he jumps right off and goes to his bed.

Not calling him "my baby". Hmm, maybe a day or so?

Never having a dog that wears clothing. That one lasted until his first fall/winter...now he has an outdoor jacket (waterproof for walks and playing), a sweater (that I knit  :D for car rides and pet store runs in the winter), and a t-shirt (in the house during the winter, we keep our heat pretty low).

I think boxers feel that all rules are a challenge. :) :p

I'm really enjoying reading this thread! It makes me feel like I'm not such a push over!

No dogs on the furniture... well some furniture. The pups aren't allowed on the new sofa.

No dogs in the bed...This one has gotten worse with each dog. My 1st boxer would only be allowed up when my husband was away on business. Then by the second it was they were only allowed when called up. Now with the 3rd, she just runs and jumps up, usually before I even get in the room.

Dogs must lay down in their "place" while we eat. This one has stuck. Most guests seem to appreciate this, some who have dogs themselves are amazed at how well my listen. They will not move until my plate is pushed away.

Dogs will not pick up food that has fallen on the floor, unless given permission. This one has also lasted. Once you have a dog with food allergies you learn how important this one is.

I also have two rules for people who visit... No smoking and don't feed my dogs!
