The following article appeared in the animal section of the Baltimore SUN,
the local newspaper.
I have been looking for other information on various sites, but have found
little more on it. This is certainly a subject that is going to cause an
uproar!

look.

The AKC announced today that it was reversing it¹s recognition of the breed
know as the ³Boxer.² Enforced starting today, boxers will not be allowed to
participate in any AKC sanctioned dog shows in either conformation or
obedience.
The announcement, made by the largest kennel club in the U. S., shocked
aficionados of the breed in that it was totally unexpected.
Bob Olivver, President of the American Boxer Club expressed outrage and
sadness at the decision, but declined further comment when asked for the
next move of the ABC in reinstating the breed.
Statements made in the official document published by the AKC mentioned
numerous reasons for the decision including what will probably prove the
most controversial, that DNA testing has shown the breed to actually be a
mixture of several breeds and not meeting the requirements as set forth by
the AKC¹s policies and regulations regarding breed purity. Also mentioned
was the fact that the boxer does not breed true to type, resulting in
mis-marked offspring, various health problems and other breed flaws.
The President and board members of the AKC were not available for comment.
