Today I had a glimpse of what it would be like to own two dogs. My husband and I were outside doing yard work when I noticed a loose dalmation in my neighbors yard.

I often see her being walked and know that her owner has lost her before, so I figured I'd better catch her. She was so sweet, I grabbed Jake's leash and called to her and she came right to me. Luckily, she had a tag, so I saw her name was Sasha and was able to call her owner to let her know we had her baby. I got her into the yard, but I was very worried because Jake has never met another dog on his turf before. He was thrilled to have a playmate, though. They went tearing around the yard, playing and jumping.

He was however, jealous of his water bowl. He kept laying in front of it with his head over it and his paws around it, as if to say - "MINE! You can't have any!"

I had to keep reminding him to share. As an only child, sharing is a new concept for him. At one point, unfortunately, we were in the driveway, which is separate from the fenced area. Sasha wanted to be with us, so she wiggled her way right under the fence. Jake was psyched to learn a new trick. For a second I thought we were going to lose both of them - they went running through the pond in my backyard. Luckily Jake came when I squeaked his "Super Loud Squeaky Ball."

Sasha's owner wasn't quite as friendly as her dog. When she came to get Sasha she had somewhat of an attitude, and acted as if we had overreacted. We live off a busy street, though, and I was worried that Sasha would get hit by a car. The owner didn't want Sasha in her car because she was covered in pond water, so she was going to drive home holding onto the leash out of the car window with Sasha running beside her.

Boy - that sure made me wish I'd kept the sweetie instead of calling! Oh well, now I've had a taste of what it would be like to have two dogs. Double fun, but definitely DOUBLE TROUBLE! What a day...

Suzanna, sounds like you did an awesome good deed and certainly a very kind thing. Sasha's "bit of a snob" (my quote

)mom needs to learn some manners and she sure should have been more gracious! GEEEZ! Way to go Suzanna!

What a snob is right! I wonder how Sasha's mom would like it if she was drug along side of a car... what if she slipped or tripped?

Some people! No wonder Sasha wanted to get away.

I always try to find dogs' owners when they are loose. You don't often see loose dogs in our neighborhood.

A couple months ago a skinny German Shephard was in our back yard first thing in the morning. I had seen a sign at the end of the street "Lost German Shephard," and I thought this might be the lost dog. He had a tag, so I called the owners. A sleepy voice answered, and the conversation was something like:

"Hi, I live down the street and your dog is in my yard."
"Oh."
"Has he been missing very long?"
"I don't know."
"Well, do you want to come get him?"
"Uh..."
"What do you want me to do with your dog?!"
"I'll ask my mom."
[I then realized I was talking to a young kid, who I had just woke up.

I walked the dog down the street and met the kid, who took him home. Of course, he acted like it was a big deal to get woke up and have to go get his dog.
If my dogs were loose in the neighborhood and someone called me, I would be overjoyed!! Some people!

I'm glad there are people out there like you to watch out for stupid pet owners.

I keep a constant eye on my babies so they can't get lost. They are always in the fenced yard or on a lead. Brutus is usually on a lead, in the fenced yard since he has jumped the fence a few times and we have not been able to get a taller fence yet.

Now you know a little about what its like having 2 dogs. They are double the trouble because they teach each other tricks. We had stopped Bru from digging before we got Amaya but she convinced him it was fun. They also love to run around and chase each other.

I bet this woman just lets her dog run off and waits for her to come back. I have a neighbor like this. She probably thinks it is easier to wait for the dog to come back than to have to go pick her up.

You did a good deed though. If my dog were lost, I'd want you in my neighborhood. Don't let this woman discourage you in the future from trying to help a lost or stray dog.

Good work my boxer friend.

You did a good thing Suzanna..some people have nuts and bolts for brains. She does not seem as if she should even have a dog.

Thanks everyone for the support. Believe it or not, last night I saw the owner rollerblading with Sasha, and SASHA WASN'T ON A LEASH. Duh! She lives on a very busy street. I'm particularly sensitive about this because a few years ago my parents' Bichon Frise, Beau, bolted out the front door and ended up being hit and killed by a FedEx truck on the road where Sasha lives. When we first adopted Jake I was a little too trusting and he escaped on me. I looked for him for about two hours before catching him. I was frantic thinking that for sure he was going to be run over. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I'd definitely want someone to try to catch him and call me (yeah right, like anyone could catch him - only his Super Loud Squeaky Ball works!).
