Switching protein source?

I'm currently feeding Rolen Timberwolf Bison, but am looking to switch his food. I have been looking at foods with a different protein source.
Looking at the dogfoodanalysis, I've been comparing Fromm duck and sweet potato, Innova EVO Red Meat, and Orijen 6 Fresh Fish.
I was wondering two things, with Rolen being about 15 months old, is the protein too high in the EVO and the Orijen? With salmon being the 2nd ingredient in the TW Bison, should I not go directly to the Orijen since salmon and salmon meal is listed as #1 and #2?
What are thoughts about the Fromm Duck?

At 15 months, he must be finished or very nearly finished his skeletal growth. That being the case, I wouldn't have any concerns about a high protein dry food such as EVO.

Each of the foods you're considering is good quality. I'd personally probably choose the EVO though. As you note, despite the name, fish is actually the main meat in TWO bison ;) and it makes more sense if changing foods to go for something with different ingredients.

Funny you asked this, because I just asked the same thing a few days ago. I am feeding Taste of the Wild and since they were very evasive on my question about aethoxyquin-free ingredients I have decided to switch. I asked gmacleod and the response was:

"As for whether or not Orijen may have to much protein. Well, the jury is still out on that one. Some say it's a problem for growing pups, some say not. In my own mind, I suspect it is not a problem (but that's nothing more than opinion - it is not based on research, just on observation that this problem doesn't seem to apply to anything else but dry food, which suggests to me that it's not the protein but carbs or overfeeding that is the issue). I'd also note that the 35% protein of the TOTW is 50% above that of traditional kibble also. I might be inclined to give the Orijen a go, being sure not to overfeed and keeping a very close eye on the dog for any sign that he may be growing too quickly."

Since I place great value in gmacleod's advice, I have decided to give it a try. My pup is only 7 mo. old by the way. Your's is 15 mo., I would assume he is definately old enough for the protein, since he is probably about done growing skeletally. I hope this helps you out.

Regarding Fromms, I have no experience in this food. :)

I fed Oscar one large bag of this food sometime before I switched to grain free. He liked it fine, had no problems, but required a bit more food to maintain his weight. I think it has fewer calories per cup than some of the other foods I had been feeding him, such as Canidae. IMHO, it is a good choice to provide a change from chicken or lamb based foods, as long as it is well tolerated by the individual dog. As a little bonus, it has barley rather than rice, for another variation in diet.
