May's Mom

Boxer Pal
Hi! I'm May's Mom. May is a 6 month old fawn Boxer. She's really good at sitting, shaking, down--BUT she won't COME. She doesn't want to. When I call her, she barks at me and runs around the yard. Not even a treat will convince her to come inside. And she's too fast for me to catch her. I have to wait for her to WANT to come in--which tells her that she is the boss. PLEASE HELP. She's already been to obedience training. She's just really stubborn and wants her way! Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the board :)
Regarding your question - when I had the same problem with my Tina (sometimes she wanted to walk more and refused to come when I called her, if I tried to approach she just ran from me), our obedience instructer told you can try this trick: run away from your dog waving hands and shouting out something. The dog will follow you, say COME a couple times as you see her coming. When the dog is near you, praise her like crazy.
Hope this helps ;) Best of luck

Use your leash to help you train the come command. Put the dog in a sit/stay, go to the end of the leash, and give the command. You might have to pull gently (or a little harder-depending on the stubborness-LOL), and REEL the dog to you. PRAISE, PRAISE, PRAISE, when she comes.
If the normal size leash isn't long enough, you can purchase 15-20 ft training leashes. These work really well.

You might try a new treat also when teaching this....something she hasn't had before. Soon she will learn that you have *new goodies* when she does right!

Have fun!!
