Boxer Pal
Hello everyone. I need advice from female boxer owners. I am all for spaying & looking forward to the day I will take my Leila to be spayed. Husband is doing it but is having second thoughts. He says he doesn't want her to become lazy & fat. I said that only happens if we don't exercise her. He says he doesn't want her "appearance" to change. This stumped me. He says he doesn't want the spaying to change her "look" of a boxer. Does anyone have any advice or article that I can show my wonderful husband that all he hears is hogwash. His friend has a female dog that isn't spayed but she bleeds very little. I told him all dogs are different & I'm not about to start daily cleanings of blood from everything. Please tell me of your females & how they were after spaying. All your help is greatly appreciated.

I have no idea! I've never heard that spaying will change the dog's looks. If I come across any info I will share.

Bayleigh was spayed at 6 months and is now 3 years old. There is no noticeable difference in her look. She is anything but lazy! Her energy level did not change at all after her spay. And any dog will gain weight if not exercised!

Spaying also decreases chances of cancer and other health problems. Not to mention eliminating the possibility of an unwanted litter of pups!

There have been some folks who say early spay can give a dog a long legged look though I do not think any of this is scientific, just observation...

If you do not plan on breeding your girl, spaying is the best thing for her. It can prevent all types of problems, cancer being one of them. Spaying does not alter their appearance. They will get fat and lazy if you don't exercise them. My girl Avery is 10 years old, we rescued her when she was 2, and had had 2 litters of pups while she was with with her "breeder." Spaying was the best thing for her. She has so much energy and life still at 10 years old that she's quite amazing really. And she looks just like a typical boxer.

I've never experienced a change of any type after having a female spayed. Only change is the obvious no heat cycles! I can only think of 3 reasons why your female would become over weight - too much food, not enough exercise or some sort of medical problem. You and your puppy will be much happier and healthier after the spay.

 I don't think there is much that will take the energy out of a boxer. Energizer Bunny comes into mind. foolicon My Zoe has been spayed and it never slowed her down a bit. The hard part was keeping her calm after the operation.

I haven't seen a change

My female boxer was spayed two months ago at the age of 6 months and believe me it did not slow her down ONE bit. Even the pain meds she was given did not make a difference. She has not gained any extra weight either.

My girl was spayed as a pup and she will be 5 in March. I am waiting for her to calm down. She isn't fat nor is she lazy and she looks perfectly normal to me. Can't even see the scar on her belly.
Aside from growing up and learning her manners, she displays the same behaviors today as she did before her spay.
A hyper, crazy, Boxer-burning, fun-loving, freak of nature!
And I wouldn't have it any other way.

no change here

Our Zuki was spayed at 6 months and it didn't change her look or energy level AT ALL. even at 9 years old she is still a happy energetic dog.
sure, she is 9, and has slowed down a bit but that is the natural aging process...not because she is/was spayed.
do it! you won't be sorry.
