We were "adopted" by a what we thought was a stray Boxer over the Memorial Day weekend. We were able to ID him and contact his original owner. Long story short, they couldn't keep him and we tried for 3 months to have a Boxer rescue work with us in finding him a new home because we weren't the ideal home for one. We weren't able to find a rescue that could/would take him and we grew attached to him. Unfortunately, we have cats and part of the reason that his original owner couldn't keep him is because he was a notorious cat killer. We've attempted a few meetings between them and all did NOT go well. With that being said, he's done well as an outdoor dog thus far. We are planning to build him some pretty sweet digs in the very near future, but in the mean time, he's adopted our very large porch as his house. I was freaked out by keeping him outside, but after speaking with our vet (who owns 3 boxers!) we've made sure that heating/cooling has been addressed as well as it can be.

Last night, my husband said that it looked like our dog has a doggy friend in the backyard. This morning on his way to work he found our dog AND his buddy curled up on the doggy swing. Our dog's friend is a VERY thin and cut/scratched up 6 - 9 month old male Boxer puppy. I think our house is turning into stray Boxer central!

I called all the vet's offices and asked if anyone is missing a puppy. He has a collar, but is in horrible shape and has been that way for a while. He is nothing but skin and bones. We made sure he got a good meal and his cuts are getting taken care of. He's friendly, but very nervous.

Here's my problem. We really aren't the ideal home for 1 Boxer and if no one claims this guy we'll have 2. We couldn't get a Boxer rescue to work with us on the first one so I doubt we'll have luck with this little guy.

Help! LOL

Sometimes things happen and it doesn't seem ideal but then it all works out somehow. I guess you have been "adopted" again and those boys seem to want you for their rescuer!

Bless you for taking care of them!

Good luck :)

I think I would continue to try working with a boxer rescue.... For both of them. I'm glad they are both safe with you (thank you!!) but Boxers are really not outside dogs....they are family dogs and want to be part of family life. (However, I completely understand you can't let them into your house because of the cats).

Rockin' P was the first rescue I contacted. I tried for MONTHS to get a response. Laura from BARC tried contacting them, too. I wonder if they're no longer taking any in.

We've nicknamed the puppy Lazarus. He's pretty rough right now, but I've got faith that he'll end up just as healthy and happy as Gomer did. We have an older cat (14) that is the main reason we quit trying to introduce Gomer to the cats. When something, God forbids, happens to her, we planned to work something out between Gomer and our other cat. If we can't find Lazarus's owner or find a suitable home for him, we'll rethink our original plan B.

I sent another email to Laura from BARC to see if anything has changed since I last talked to her a few months ago.

How sweet that your dog was curled up with the pup and so readily accepted him.

I wonder if a rescue would list the pup as a "courtesy posting" to help find him a home? Sometimes they don't have any available foster homes, but may be willing to do that for you.

And maybe your vet has a place to post a picture and help find him a home?

Good luck to you and thank you for helping both dogs.

I'm sorry that Rockin' P hasn't responded to your requests; it doesn't sound like them at all - maybe the Christmas season has slowed things down. I do know that they've been inundated with dogs lately, but they should have at least gotten back to you. They have a page on Facebook you could try. There's also Atlanta Boxer Rescue, but I'm not sure if they'll take AL dogs or not. It's worth a try.

I just sent Angie (Director) and Ginger (Adoption Coordinator) an email, explaining your situation. Hopefully, I'll hear back from them. It's worth a try. Are you still wanting both dogs to go into rescue, or just the puppy? I see that you've had the other dog since Memorial Day - maybe you've become attached to him?
