While driving to work today I was listening to this report. You must read it to beleive it.


HASTINGS, Minn. (AP) - An Eagan man was charged with animal cruelty for shooting and killing the family dog in the bathroom of his home, the Dakota County Attorney's Office said Tuesday.

Bart Andrew Swedin, 38, admitted that he had shot the 9-month-old Labrador puppy after the dog chewed on a book and some carpet, County Attorney Jim Backstrom said. Swedin smelled strongly of alcohol when he was arrested, police reported.

He was also charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. Both charges are felonies.

Swedin's wife told police that the couple's two children were sleeping in their room directly above the bathroom when Swedin shot the dog three times with a pistol, said Backstrom. The dog was found dead later in the garage.

Swedin made his first court appearance Tuesday and bail was set at $15,000. He's due in court again Dec. 6.




I'm so embaressed that he is from my state of Minnesota, what ever happened to "Minnesota Nice"?

The radio station said the guy shot the dog about 1:00am Sunday morning after drinking all night. His wife & kids were up stairs in bed. The wife heard the shots & called the cops. (They did not say if she called because she was mad or if she called just because she heard the shots) The wife also runs a daycare out of their home.

Poor puppy, I'm sure he's having a much better life now.

Wow.................that is awful.....I really don't know what else to say. I had a freind when I was a child whose beagle puppy was shot in the middle of the night by one of the neighbors because it was barking. They never complained to him, just killed his puppy. So sad. That poor Lab puppy..........This is just adds to the reasons why I generally dislike people.

In Columbus, Ohio about a year or so ago, someone shot and killed a mother lab mix in a back yard. It was all over the news, the puppies survived and they were adopting them out on a new station here. It was so sad! I can't believe people can be so cruel to animals. Dogs, any animal for that matter, just want to love and protect you. Some people..........

I am from MN and go to school in IL. I keep up on MN news reading the online newspaper everyday. I was horrified when I read this last night. One of those things that you read, and your stomach instantly does a flip flop. I hope and pray this man is punished to the fullest extent for such a brutal crime. Wouldnt it be nice if people had to apply to be dog owners?? Some people just dont deserve the love and companionship of animals. When I was about ten one of my friends was playing in the yard with her golden retrieiver. Her brother was across the road (they live on a gravel road in the country). The dog went to go across to her brother, and a truck came and swerved all the way to the other shoulder to intentionally hit her dog. Can you imagine being ten and seeing some heartless person intentionally hit your dog?? How can people possibly be so cruel?

Well, even if the judge doesn't "throw the book" at this slimeball, there is a bigger Judge who will have the final say later on down the line.

I don't get how people can hurt a defenseless animal.
At least the puppy is in a better place now where that jerk can't ever hurt him again.
Ya know I came home late from work last night to find that Kosmo had put a nice hole in the wall in his playroom and I felt bad telling just him he did a naughty thing. I can't even imagine raising a hand to him.
