Hello! I am trying to switch my Rocky to a different food, but I'm so confused and don't know what to do. He has been eating Canidae since he was a puppy. He is now 2 years old and I would like to switch. I was thinking of switching to Innova Evo. Based on the first few ingredients it seems good and I know it has been suggested to others as a good food. Would there be any reason not to switch him to that? I am not aware of any allegergies or anything. Just looking for something different and hoping maybe he will eat more in one sitting. He is a finicky eater. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Not that I am an expert, but I have done a ton of reading on different foods. I have tried Innova (not Evo) which is a great food but gave my girl diahrreah and I have tried Wellness, which did the same thing. I have now figured out she is allergic to the grains so now I am giving her Timberwolf Ocean Blue and she is doing wonderful on it. I will be trying the Bison formula next time just for a change. I am also putting my 5 mo. old puppy on it. I don't know if you have read the dog food analysis on this site but if you haven't, I would definately do so. It is very informative. I think your choice in Innova Evo is a great choice though because it is a very good food. Good luck!

It is a great idea to switch it up a bit and rotate your foods. 2 years is a long time to be eating the same thing day in and day out. I'm sure your pup would appreciate a little variety. Innova EVO is an excellent choice-one of the best dry foods you can buy as it's grain-free and about as close to a natural diet as you're going to find in a kibble.
I think it's pretty likely that since your dog has been eating one specific food for so long, that a fast intro to a new food may cause some tummy upset. It's best to switch over slow until you know what your dog's stomach can tolerate. Start with 75% Canidae/25% EVO for a couple of days. Then up the amount of the new food to a 50%/50% ratio. After a couple more days of this, you can try using 75% of the new food and only 25% Canidae. After about 8-10 days, you should be all switched over to the new food with hopefully little digestive disturbances. As long as your dog can tolerate whole-grains, there are quite a few good foods you can rotate , and you don't have to stay with only two different foods. The Timberwolf line, as well as Wellness, Orijen, Innova reg, Merrick, Wysong, and SG are all good choices, in addition to the grain-free EVO, EVO RM, RAW Instinct.
