For the past several nights I've had to kick Debo out of my room. He's learned the command - Go sleep in Shayla's room!

The problem is Debo smacks his lips and licks himself before going to bed. I know this is probably normal, but it's driving me CRAZY! I love letting Debo sleep in the room with me but his smacking and licking has gone too far. It's always just as we settle down then I hear this >smack< >smack< and I look at him and he's licking his lips and he knows ...so he stops then he's licking himself (a common occurrence now that he's at that "age" to be neutered - I CANT WAIT for this surgery!! It's disgusting - and to think I used to give him big kisses smack on the lips - NOT!

Am I being mean??? I hope this stages passes soon! Do they still lick themselves after the surgery is over and healed???

Do any of your babies smack before falling asleep??????????

BTW we had to cancel the 30th surgery because we are going to San Diego, but we rescheduled for the 15th.

Ohhh poor Debo. Sorry, I can't give any advise on a boy, but I am sure someone else will. Just for interest, I have a similar 'noisy' problem. My Amy girl sometimes cleans her paws in our bed. The noise!! like she spits, scrapes and drools, leaving a big wet dirty patch. Sometimes when she is by herself she digs in our bed under the top blankets and leaves really wet patches Ugghh. She sleeps with us and she is definitely not allowed to do it in bed. When she starts up - we say 'stop it' and she knows it, she will stop it. Usually she will clean her paws on another blanket on the couch, where she is allowed. I have to wash this often also.

That licking noise should be bottled and used as some form of torture. Samson and Athena both lick to the point of insanity. I just yell "QUIT" and they do it no more. I think I would rather hear the drippy faucet then that.

My boy chews and sucks on his feet! I know what you mean about the smacking noise being obnoxious. My boy occasioannly licks his tally wacker, but not to often.

I hope the licking stops after you neuter him!
sounds a little annoying.

Licking themselves is a hygienic ritual for dogs. No matter if you wash them or not, they just feel they have to clean themselves up, especially their intime parts. It's in their nature, you can't do anything. I don't think neutering can help in this case. If you constantly yell and scold at your dog for doing this, it will be aware not to do it at your presence but anyway it will do this when you can't see.

Pharaoh does the lip smacking too...usually right before bed time, or in the morning. He is a BIG time licker, but not with his Tee Tee. He rather licks his feet or us.

Thanks, I feel better now! I'm not the only one suffering! But I guess I'll suffer any day, 'cause it's all worth it when I get that crazy kidney bean dance!

Gus does the licking/smacking at night. It seems he only does it when he sleeps in the bedroom with me at night. He usually sleeps in his crate in the kitchen (and I think he is happier there). Anyway, he licks and licks and licks and drives me up the wall. I try to ignore it hoping he'll stop, but it never works. He just keeps licking/smacking he manhood. After I put him in his crate there is a routine...1-stretch with butt in the air and chest down, 2-yawn and make loud, high-pitch screech, 3-attempt to circle inside the crate, 4-make as much noise as possible when plopping/laying down, and 5-let out a huge, obnoxious sigh. NO LICKING/SMACKING THOUGH. Then in minutes he is asleep. I just don't get it. I assume it is because he has always slept in his crate and knows when he is in there he is supposed to be sleeping.

Sooooo sorry for the lengthy post, but I'm sure you'll all understand.

By the way, Gus is neutered and 1.5 years. I don't think neutering will stop it.
