baileys a sick boy today.
last night about 9 we went out to the toilet and had the runs, and again about an hour later..pretty runny. also he didnt eat his lunch and only half hid dinner yesterday. he was able to hold it all night no probs (he didnt even wake up) but then again this morning he did 2 lots again. didnt eat his lunch today but scoffed his dinner. hes just done the tiniest pile of poop (pretty runny) nothings changed as far as his diets concerned..routine either. i cant think of what it is. he ate a tiny bit of toy last night about 7pm but its like 1cm. hes in good form but not his usual hyper self.
dh thinks im worrying too much that hes got 'a bug' but i want to know whats caused it..any ideas?
is it normal for a dog to get a 'bug'

Unfortunatley, this can be just "a bug" or like my last boxer Meg, it could be "a boxer thing" that will happen from time to time. Best advice I can give is to starve him for 24 hours, then introduce small portions of bland food, boiled chicken and rice is good. If the problem persists, take him to the vets, for a check up.

Gregory

Right now Gregory has the runs, but none of the other symptoms. I am giving him half an adult dose of Kaepectate and he is eating rice and chicken broth. This was my vets recommedation. I think he has eaten something out in the yard and that is what has done it. He is his normal self. You may want to check with your vet and see if the program I listed would be good for your guy. I hope he is okay. Keep us posted.

BTW...I am not familiar with worms causing these symptoms.

Certain parasites will cause chronic diahrrea. Herkie came down with Hookworms in April, and what triggered it was the runs, and I knew something just wasn't right with him. Off to the vet we went....and it was Hookworms. Nothing a dewormer can't treat, but you don't want to let it go for long. Sending Bailey lot's of positive vibes that he's feeling better soon.

well we went to see the friendly vet tonight and bailey was SO excited to be there..the poor vet could hardly examine him he was being licked so much!
he gave him a wormer and also an antibiotic injection too. he's given hima course of sulphasalazine (?) too in casew its a touch of colitis (as the symptoms are only intermittendt rather than consistently) is anyone currently using this drug/ used it before??
i tried to google it to see what i could find. apparantly its an antibiotic anti imflammatory. im always reluctant giving him drugs but i guess ill try it to see if it helps! the vet said if its really cleared up in a week to stop and keep the rest incase it crops up again.
hes lying here snoozing exhausted after the excitment of the vets visit!!!

Good to hear

Glad to hear that everything turned out pretty good. I hope that he feels 100% very soon. Take a load off and get some rest yourself!!!

worms it is then!

well i was right. it WAS worms!!! gave him the wormer and my aunt (and loyal dog sitter ) called at lunch to say he had 'laid' a load of them outside. she left it for me to see (im like that!) and i have to say its pretty gross!!!. there seemed to be 2 kinds short and long which i have more or less determined are ring worms and tape worms. glad hes sorted out now tho..i can imagine it was very comfortable for him and im very happy they are out!!
dont think i should give him the other drugs seeing as we now know what the cause was do you?
im gonna hold up for a while and if he still has the symptoms ill give them then.
he seems to be in much better form tonight tho!! definatly more settled and having a great time with his new latex shark (which smells sooo bad and makes the worst sound when hes chewing on it!!!)
thanks for your help guys... i love that i can get so many opinions from other obsessive mums and dads!!!
