I was driving through the neighborhood this weekend, and had to drive around the block for a second look.
This man was lounging in his front yard, sunning and reading a book, while two GORGEOUS boxers fought over a toy in that wonderfully gentle way boxers have.
One was almost all white, stocky, with a few little black dots, natural ears, and a docked tail. The other was a big brindle fellow with a classic boxer face, natural ears, and a really long tail that he held arched over his back, wagging slowly as he played. I thought he would look silly, but he really didn't.
This might be no big deal to many of you, but I've always wanted to see a good looking boxer, au natural.

The guy probably thought I was casing the joint as I drove by for a third time, so I had to tell him how pretty I thought his dogs were.
If I see him out there again, I want to ask if he's had any problems with tail injuries.

How refreshing to hear that someone else has the same views as me. We are expecting a litter imminently, infact we're sure she's in stage 1 at the moment!! We have decided to keep the tails on as I am of the belief that if they were meant to be long tailed they should stay that way. We have met with much disaproval but, to be honest, I don't care, I want what's best for my babies.

I'm glad you liked what you saw and hope there will be more au natural boxers in the future.

I have never seen one in person, but seen the pictures of Basse on the home page. I decided then that my next boxer will be completely un-modified. :) I understand there are some reasons for tail docking such as preventing future tail injury, but are there any other reasons or things that make Boxers more likely to have this occur than other breeds? Thanks for the info! :)

Draco is a long tailed Boxer--and he does look cute with his tail intact. As for injuries----when he does the kidney beaning he ends up getting a red eye....and if he is round the coffe table disaster follows inevitably!!
If you go to the picture gallery and type Draco in the search area you will find Draco's pictures!!

Monty is also a natural tailed boxer. Whilst I agree it's lovely to see them as they should be, they are so boistorous and it's not only them they can hurt. He has hit me several times in the mouth and it can only be described as a whip. I've actually heard that alot of long tailed Boxers have damaged their tails simply because they hit doors etc constantly. It seems it's alot worse to have the tails amputated through damage than to have them docked at birth. I constantly have to keep Monty away from low tables, ornamonts, etc, but honestly I wouldn't have him any other way.

Tail docking origin?

What is the history of tail docking? I imagine it was first done when they were used as police dogs in Germany to prevent people from grabbing their tail or make them more stealth? I dont know what could make a boxer quiet, coz that doesnt seem to do it! :) Also, how did ear cropping first come to be? Initimidation factor as German police dogs?

Tail docking

My sister wrote to me the other month and in the letter she put: Do you know why Boxers have their tails docked? Because the Germans don't like to see a happy dog smashicon.
I have to explain, she sent that because Gunther is German
!

Our first boxer in 95 was all out natural! His tail was crazy though, breaking things and slapping me in the face like a whip. I prefer both natural and docked!:)

Tails haha weapons

Hannah used hers as a weapon,,,LOL
and she ws really on cue with it,,,I would pick at my children and tell them Hannah was gonna spank them,,she would go running to them like I am gonna spank u,HAHAHA and they would be good LOL.
I held each of Hannahs pups as they got there tails docked and I will never do it to another puppy,,,poor things were crying and howling, they couldnt see and i bet they thought i was the meanest smell they had ever experienced.
But this is just my view on it,poor things i can still hear them crying.

Oh, how sad! I have never experienced that before. I wasn't there when Dallas had her tail done- she came that way. And ya know if she came with a natural tail I would probably be too much of a wimp to do it too!!!!:) She has natural ears and even if we could have done the cropping here in Germany without it being illegal- I still wouldn't have done it too her!:D :D :D Too much pain for ME to handle!:)
