Last week when I wrote in reply to Allison's inquiry about Boxers vs. Weimeraners, I talked about my friend John's beloved Weimey, Jaeger.
Well....I'm very sorry to say that John just called me in tears, and Jaeger is gone. At 13 1/2 years old, he collapsed in the yard and it turned out he had an inoperable abdominal tumor and they couldn't save him.
John and Jaeger were best, best friends for over 13 years. I'm so sad. :(

John would like very much to get two Weimey pups in the next several months. If anyone knows of any reputable breeders in California or Nevada, please let me know and I'll pass it along. Even if he doesn't find a pup for awhile, I think the search will make him feel better.
Thanks,
Linda

How very sad. :( Give John our condolences. He was lucky to have shared so many years with Jaeger.

Hi Linda,
I am sorry to hear about your friends dog,13 1/2 years, wow.
I wanted to let you know that there is a Weimeraner Rescue right next door to LA boxer rescue. I don't know if your friend would be interested in a rescue but I thought I pass the info on. Both rescues are located on Sherwood St, I think, sorry I don't know the exact address. I have the exact directions/address at home if interested.
Please pass my condolences on to your friend.

Oh, how we love our pets. I just ran into John's mother at lunch. She's a wonderful, plucky, and seemingly very strong ~60 year old woman who moved here from Germany some years back.
I asked her how John's doing with the loss of Jaeger (pronounced Yager), and she fell into my arms sobbing. Turns out she misses the dog even more than John, because she used to take care of him so often, and John and Jaeger were the only family she has on this earth. She has health problems, and said that often she'd be scared at night, and found a strange but powerful comfort in knowing she'd be going to see Jaeger the next day. She's also the one who found him when he collapsed.
Poor thing. We were right in public, in a busy restaurant, but I didn't care. I just hugged her and let her cry and talk until she was done. :(

On a lighter note, when she was feeling better, she said she loved that dog because she doesn't like John's girlfriend, and Jaeger liked to pee on anything she left at John's house. :D

I hope "John" (pronounced "they") gets a new pup soon. Thanks to everyone who sent information, I've passed it all along to him and he's eagerly looking for the right pup but there aren't many out there.

happy new beginning

Thanks to everyone who read and replied to this message. I'm happy to say that John has found a new Weimeraner. Thanks to a contact I received on this board, he was able to "rescue" an 18 week old pup whose owners became too ill to keep him. I'm very sad for the previous owners, but at least they know their pup has gone to a good home.

"Gunner" is beautiful!!! He's at that gawky stage where he's all feet, and he's almost as cute as a boxer pup! He has a wonderful mellow personality, huge silky ears, and the most beautiful light blue eyes..... John took him on a trial basis and fell instantly in love. He had to surrender Gunner for three days so the breeder could neuter him, and he was going nuts without him. People and their dogs....it's like magic!!! :)

And, you think boxers are expensive......the discounted "rescue" price was $800, and John had to vie with four other hopeful owners for the privilege of buying him. (Basically, he begged hardest.....)

I'm so happy that John has a new Weimie to love. What does his Mother think of his new bundle of joy? I bet she's estatic. :)

Congrats to John! We had to put our dog down due to distemper. It was so hard on us. I've never seen David cry so hard or could believe how long it took us to get over it. We were going back and forth between a weimy and a boxer. It just so happened that someone at work has two boxers and the female was pregnant. So we decided on the boxer and brought Betty home 2 months later. It has been the best thing for our grief recovery.
I hope John is feeling better since the loss of his Jaeger. It is so hard to deal with but with the new puppy he should be well on his way to recovering! We wish him all the luck and lots of love!

John's mom is in love, too! I haven't talked to her yet, but John said she took to Gunner instantly. I wonder if Gunner will pee on John's girlfriend's stuff like Jaeger did?
