Running with my Boxer...what to do with the Poo?

My 2 year old boxer Lucy and I go running about 5 miles 3 times a week (I'd do more but my knees can't take any more at the moment!). I can tell she gets a lot of joy out of it and I do, too. She has really become a wonderful running partner...not pulling on the leash and staying right by my side. And the little grins she gives me during the runs just say "I'm having so much fun!".

So there is one negative to all this running...the poo. I always take her out before the runs, and she goes potty. Then she goes at least 3 more times during the run! I want to be a responsible dog owner and bag it, so I do. But it's driving me crazy running with all that poo! I tie 3 grocery bags to the leash and as I use them, i tie them to the leash too. So I feel bad that she's running with poo on her leash, but I don't think I could carry it and run. Lately I have been tempted to put them in people's garbage cans at the curb, but I haven't decided if that's rude or not...I wouldn't mind if someone put something in my garbage can but I don't know about other people.

The other day, I tied a poo bag on her leash, and at some point on the run, it fell off and I didn't notice until we got home. I thought it was kinda funny that there's a poo bag on the side of the road somewhere. I didn't go look for it, because it was a really long run. I didn't see it the next time.

Any suggestions?

I run also, and I've tried for years to get Roxy to run with me. She runs about two blocks and then starts playing. I'm afraid she is going to trip me, which has happened! (still got the scars to prove it!) About the poo, maybe you could put it in a garbage can that is still filled with garbage and looks like it is about to be emptied. I dont' know why they would mind that. I wouldn't put it in one that looks like it has just been emptied though. If it has to sit there a few days the people might not appreciate it. :)

If it was me, I wouldn't care.

If you put poo in my trash can, that is. I generally do when I walk her and she poos on the walk , which is usually not the case. She usually does it before or after. But when she does, it usually goes into someone's garbage.

I feel better if there's a dumpster, but it's not like I'm costing them money. They don't make us pay per pound dumped here in my chunk of the Midwest!

When the family down the alley stops garbage service and hits our can, I get a little miffed, but if they're not paying for it I suspect it's because they need for other causes, so I don't get more than a little miffed.

I would feel fine tying it to the leash. The dog doesn't care - she/hes on a run!

I think 99% of people would rather it in a sealed bag in their trash can as opposed to smeared all over the pavement/sidewalk outside their house.

I guess all that running makes you want to pooh. Hopefully a dog lover found the pooh bag maybee you can run where there are garbage cans on the street I always drop off pooh bags in the can in the park by my house

I do not see putting baggies in peoples trash cans as rude.

What in th earth are you feeding to get so much poo? I run the same distance as you and not nearly the out take? Are you feeding a quality food? I feed raw and each dog varies but I get about 2 maybe 3 poos an entire day.
I run in a forest preserve so I do not have thedogs leashed nor worry about pickup. I have run in my brotheres neighborhood on occation and have never had an occation to stop for the dogs to relieve themselves.

I say get a better food.

I run the same distance with Billy every day now. I run a loop though, so when he poops I bag it up and then collect it on my way back home. He only poops once on our run.

Like others have mentioned, I wouldn't think it would be rude. At least you take the time to pick the stuff up and put it in a sealed bag ;)

I always wondered.........neither of my dogs have ever pooped during our walks or runs. We go running just about every morning and evening and for the 3 years I've had them, neither boys have pooped in a yard other than thiers. Is that pretty normal??

Your baby does poop alot!!!!!
