Rescuing a BYB dog...

Tonight I called an ad in the paper...the first time and I don't know why because I am against it...for a nine month brindle female. The lady has too many dogs. Between boxers, Australian shepherds, and toy fox terriers...there were twelve dogs plus at least one cat. It was a small house. The boxer female being sold was not a "perfect" boxer...but...

The personality of this dog was great. Her overall look was good but her muzzle was a little long which actually added to her character. The lady had the mother and the father. The father looked pretty good, but the female was the one with the longer muzzle. The dog for sale is up to date on shots and heartworm meds. She is not spayed. Me a male stranger was accepted very well by most dogs there, and especially by the one I am interested in. This shows that something is done right.

Obviously, I am very interested. I feel that I am rescuing her from a situtaion that is less than perfect. Having said that, this young dog is good with people and socialized with dogs. I am going to call her vet...which is also my vet. At this point I am going to get her.

My question...what things should I be concerned about? I have four boys, but her reception of me shows that she is good with strangers. They will have to meet her yet. When I showed them video of her, this is the first time I saw excitement in all their eyes. They even saw comparisons to our last dog...this is the first I heard them say that type of remark. I would like input from others who have had similar experiences.

I don't have any experience with rescues, however I am glad that she is going to be coming to a great family that will show her the love she deserves!
Good for you!
Can't wait to meet her

She sounds like a very nice dog, just had the misfortune of being born into a less than ideal situation....just because she comes from a BYB doesn't mean that she still can't be a wonderful addition to your family and make a great pet for many years. You are good to find out as much as possible about her first, and as long as the vet says she is clear, then I say go for it! It might be good to let your boys meet her first to be sure she is okay with kids but it sounds like she is probably used to alot of commotion and play coming from a small home with 12 dogs!

How great, I agree with Jills boxer, "because she comes from a BYB doesn't mean that she still can't be a wonderful addition to your family" I hope it all works out, it sounds as if she is nicely socialised, hope to see some pics soon :)

I dont want to be the "bad guy" here but if you are paying for this dog it is not a rescue. You would just be supporting a BYB and they will just breed again and someone with a big heart will come along and feel sorry for the next bunch and buy them and so on and so forth. Please think twice before supporting this.

I have to agree. This is really not a rescue (sorry). That word gets thrown around way too much. Heck, I have volunteered for rescue for the past 6+ years and you'll never hear me say that I "rescued" a dog. I always think that sorta makes it sound like I swooped in on a Tarzan vine and snatched a dog from some dangerous situation.

This is simply purchasing a dog from a BYB and yes, that person will surely have more Boxers available in the future.

I agree...I should have put the word "rescue" in quotes.

However, at this point, she has 12 dogs...probably 10 too many. Am I to turn my back on this dog and choose one from an adoption agency...same price...or choose this one who probably will end up at an adoption agency?

So, giving this lady 200...same vet as I have, she does take care of the dogs...or an unknown dog from the true Rescue Agency? I have heard from them, too.

By the way, she doesn't have puppies right now. WIll she in the future? Probably. I think she has a "problem" having 12 dogs.
