Red sore ear.

Gauge has been scratching his one ear at night for awhile now. I have been keeping and eye on it but it is strange. He seems to scratch it, it turns red inside and sometimes bleeds because he is not gentle when scratching. There is no smell or discharge and by the afternoon it looks normal like the other ear. Any ideas?

Infection or ear mites are the most likely possibilities. In either case, a vet visit is probably needed. Neither thing is likely to clear up on it's own - and actually, you never know what it might be (there could be other troubles than the two I suggest). Best to let a doctor take a look

Took him in anyways turns out to be some topical skin thing. I cannot remember the name. Vet compared it to a hot spot. Give him a shot and some cream.

OK Well, at least that should bring him some relief. Good that it wasn't anything especially problematic.
