Red Paws and Food Allergies?

Rocky, my 1 yr. old, had the reddest paws and he's constantly licking them. We changed his food to Canidae Lamb and Rice. He's been eating it for 16 weeks. He seemed to be doing fine until about 3 weeks ago. Could it be the food? I'm thinking of changing his food again but don't know what to try next. He will be going to the vet on Monday because he will probably need antibiotics for his paws. I'm at a loss as to what to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My boy went through this too. His turned out to be grasses, etc. outside. But it could be food too. What were you feeding him before? Unfortuneatly allergies really are a process of elimination and it can be frustrating... My boy ended up on an antibiotioc as well. I put a doggie boot on the paw he kept chewing and soaked his paws in epsom salts to soothe them.

My Steeler went through this and we put him on Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish. He is doing awesome on it!!!!! My Milo is also on this food but his turned out to be grass allergies and is on a allergy pill for ten days. Hope you figure it out

Malasezia

I had the same problem: Giotto had red paws and was always licking them. This was caused by the malasezia, a yeast infection developed as a consequence of a food allergy. Giotto took the antifungal pills, I washed his paws whith an antifungal shampoo and all went well. I've been feeding him with Burns Pet Nutrition an olistic food and this seems to work well: no more red and itching paws.
