Hi again,

when i came home from work yesterday afternoon i noticed that my dogs one eye was quite red. It gets like this sometimes if he has just woken up or is really tired so i thought nothing of it.
I checked it out and everything seems to be okay, nothing in his eye.. but it's still red.
I woke up this morning and his eye was covered in "Guck" and is still quite red.

Any suggestions or should i make the visit to the vet??

Thanks everyone

The vet visit is probably the best course. It sounds like an infection (perhaps conjunctivitis) and likely to need some help to clear up. It's best not to mess with eyes, so letting a doctor take a look pretty soon seems a good idea.

Sounds like conjunctivitis to me, but only a vet visit will tell you for sure. They'll give you some ointment and it clears right up. Don't put off taking him, however, bc when Brinks had it, they told me if it goes on too long the eye can get ulcers on it, and that's more painful and harder to clear up. Good luck!

Conjunctivitis

Well we made it to the vet and thank heavens we did.

Turns out that Caine has lymph something or other under his 3rd eyelid. which goes with conjunctivitis. Thanks for all your advice everyone.

so we now have to give him eye drops 2 times a day as well as antibiotics.

Once he is done those, the vet gave me some fibre dog food to mix with what he is already eating and once the antibiotics are done he has this powder i need to sprinkle on his food to help bring back the proper bacteria into his system.

I guess the fiber and powder is there to clean out his colon and help him get better. Fingers crossed

I just hope he gets better. we have only had him for 5 weeks and have made 3 visits to the vet for shots or something or other.. he has a heart murmur and the first vet thought he might have a genetic eye defect which the new vet doesn't think so.. I just hope i didn't buy a sick dog. i love him so much and he is such a part of the family i dont know what i would do with out him.

I didn't realize dogs could get that! Good to know. Orion's eyes will get red when he does his boxer burn (gets all the blood flowing) but then it goes away just a fast too.

I'm glad you were able to get to the vet's and get it checked out!

Oh no! I'm so glad you didn't wait any longer! We found it quite easy to give Brinks the eye ointment....because we waited until he was sound asleep! When he's in a deep nap he won't even wake up....trust me! Makes life much easier. I am sure your pup will be just fine, sometimes you have to work things like this out, get him healthy, and then hopefully keep him that way. I do understand your concern, though. And, it's amazing how fast you can't imagine your life without them! Best of luck!
