One of my good friends bought a Black Lab at a Pet Store. He had kennel cough. He is 12 or 13 weeks old and my friend is taken him to obedience classes.
Here is where it gets really sad. The trainer is a ex military dog trainer and trained dogs for the military when he was serving our Country. I asked him what techniques this guy is using for training puppies/adult dogs. My friend stated he used pinch collars, shock collars, and some kind of wiping stick (not sure what he was talking about on this because I was already in total awe over this). Basicailly he uses a hard hand to train dogs.
My friend drops him off at 9am in the morning and picks the puppy up at 5pm for five days straight. He claim the trainer does not look group training because all the puppy wants to do is play. So that is why he only does private training only without the owners. I told him it is because he going to beat the dog to get it to listen to his commands.
I'm totally really socked that my friend thinks this is ok to do. I think it is it puppy abuse!!!!!!! There is no way I would put Max through this training no matter how bad or untrainable he was. Train them with love and you will have a very happy family dog that listens to you. I'm still in shock that he is doing this to that puppy and feels it is ok. I guess I just needed to vent, sorry to bother you with this.
