Hi everyone. I think we have found a forever home for Remmy. They are thinking of changing his name (they have 5 kids and they want to name him) What does everyone think about that. I've heard it might be good to re-name a dog going to a new home. (New home=New name=New Start) I would like everyones opinions.

Barney--Brindle 13mo. male/n natural ears
Remmy--Boxer mix 18m0. mole/n <Foster>
Samson--Fawn rainbow bridge 7-99

I've heard that it's good to change the dogs name if they've been abused because they associate it with bad experiences. But aside from that look how many names each dog answers to. Jake, Weasel, Baby boy, honey face, etc. And you know they all know who you're talking to. I think it's a simple thing to change a name.

When I got Roxy at 7 months, Roxy was not her name. It was somethng so unusal that I could not even remember it myself! Anyhow, I had my heart set on the name Roxy for a girl Boxer, and nothing was going to change my mind! LOL I agree with Maribeth though, about a name-change being a good thing for a dog when they go to new owners, esp. if the dog had an unfortunate life w/his/her former owners. Not that this is the case at all with you!!! :) Best of luck to you, Remmy, and his new family. Hopefully you will be able to keep in touch w/them, and even see Remmy again.

I would suggest that if they want to change the name that they try to find something that sounds similar to Remmy so that it won't be too confusing.

Congrats on finding Remmy a forever home!

I see no problem in letting them change the name. Like said before they come to pretty much anything. I have actually wanted to change our pup Athena's name, she is 6 months. I really don't like the name any more. I haven't mentioned it to my family though, they probably would have me commited. I always call her Miss and she comes to that to.
