Ok, I need some ideas. About 2 days ago, Atreyu got a rash on his belly......it just looks like little red dots/bumps.......almost like mini-spider bites or mosquito bites......but smaller.......they don't seem to bother him at all. I figured it was from him having accidents in the crate and the urine irritating his skin........so I've just been washing his belly everyday to keep him clean and dry. Well, then Kaybie has to go and complicate things.......last night she flips over on her back playing and what do I see......the same exact rash on her belly too! What the heck could it be? I'm baffled because she hasn't come in contact with the cleaner that I've used on Tre's crate so it's not from that, she hasn't had a bath so it's not the shampoo, they haven't gotten in to anything out of the ordinary........the only thing that I can slightly think of is that they have been rolling in the grass a lot more than normal because it's been nice out and I thought maybe it just irritated their skin, but it's weird that they would both have a grass allergy (Kaybie never has and neither of Tre's parents have allergies) and both have the EXACT same reaction. I'm taking Atreyu to the vet tomorrow for his 1st checkup so I will just ask the vet and tell her that Kaybie has the rash too and see what she says. Just thought I'd see if anyone might have any ideas of what this rash could be?

mmmm I agree it would be a mighty coincidence for them both to develop an allergy rash at the same time, so I would be looking at some sort of mites. Just as well to get the vet's opinion

Bayleigh gets a rash on her chest and tummy if she scooches in the grass. I don't think it's an allergy, just irritated skin.

I would think that for both of them to have it, it has to be something contagious. Mites, Scabies, something like that?? A lot of things that dogs pass from one to another are also transferable to humans, so keep an eye on your own skin, or whoever comes in contact with them. Hope all goes well at the vet.

It could be some sort of infectious mites (such as the aforementioned scabies). But it could equally be little bites from bugs (ants even?) in your yard. It would be a very unusual coincidence for both to develop the same allergy at the same time - but not at all unusual for both to lie down on the same ingidnent set of bugs out in the backyard and be bitten as a result ;) Just one possibility amongst many, I guess. Will be interesting to hear what the vet has to say.

Well I took Atreyu to the vet on Friday and things went good. The vet is not concerned about the rash at all and said we will just keep an eye on it but that she thinks it's just from something outside or from rough-housing with Kaybie (also, Kaybie's rash is totally gone). So otherwise, things checked out good and she said he looks great healthwise, but he does have roundworms. Not sure if the dose of wormer that the breeder's vet gave him wasn't enough or what, but he got another dose and it's already working because I've seen them in his poop and he's pooping like 15 times a day! But those should clear up and he'll get one more dose in a few weeks and then we'll recheck his stool. I'm making sure to keep Kaybie away from his poop and cleaning it up right away so she doesn't get it....she's also on heartguard year round which also protects against roundworms so the vet isn't very concerned about Kaybie getting it. Well that's the update. =)
