Boxer Pal
I have a question.
I am in Texas. Our family lost our boxer last summer to cancer. She was an adoptee that we took in when she was 2 from a retiring couple who wanted to travel and not have to leave her in a motor home so much. We desperate-
ly miss her and want another boxer. We would love to adopt but the problem is that every TX rescue I have looked into will not adopt out of it's area. We are 3 1/2 hours from Dallas and 2 1/2 from Austin (smack in the geographic center of tx) We have three kiddos and a huge yard and love boxers. I feel rescue is the right thing to do but are we just "out of luck" because of our location? I have found several boxers in pounds in the metroplex but before I can get there, a rescue picks them up. Any suggestions or know of smaller rescues closer to us that may not be as well known as the larger ones with web sites that I could look into? I had really rather help a boxer in need.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Have you tried www.ncbr.org/tx ?
Aso try www.petfinder.com there are always many boxers listed there in urgent need
I agree....I work with Nor Cal Boxer Rescue in California. There is a "sister" group in Texas. www.ncbr.org/tx Try their site, put in an application and see what happens. Good people............too many Boxers needeing homes.
Good luck.
PS Magoo's Mama!! Monterey!! My "home" - well actually I'm from Pacific Grove. The Peninsula is a wonderful place for a Boxer - Beaches to run on and nice weather, not too hot, not too cold, foggy and just right for running around like a Boxer nut!

Hi Nanabear we are living here until the spring, DH is at the DLI and then we're back home to Seattle. Monterey is a fun place for a boxer, he has had to get used to the rain lately though, it's all good practice for when we go back home to WA =)

Boxer Pal
question in TX

Thanks for the replies! I went on Nor-Cal's web site and will fill out an ap.
Sure enough, they didn't have a location requirement posted. I also have a friend who had looked in to rescue and I'll refer her there. too. I am on petfinder quite often looking for boxers in shelters...those are the ones I find but are usually gone before I can get there.
We'll see what happens! Keep your fingers crossed!

Thanks again!

update

In case anyone checks back....

We brought home a gorgeous, 7 mo. old, fawn with black mask boy last night!
The owner was having to move out of town for a job and would be living with in-laws indefinately who were allergic. He was going to take him to a shelter but a mutual friend insisted she would take him until she could find the right home. So my problem is solved and now we have a new furbaby. My three daughters are ecstatic!(dad and I are pretty happy too!)

Thanks guys!

Just FYI Lone Star Boxer Rescue (in Houston) does not have geographical restrictions. They will adopt to you, anywhere in TX. I live in Austin and we adopted both of our Boxers through LSBR

It's my understanding that only the Dallas Boxer Rescue has restrictions for out-of-towners

Good luck
