I am new to boxers (yes I did a intro). My first question is. What is it with the different sizes? My wifes old boxer is 70 pound male (lives with her Dad). Around 3 or 4 yrs old Our baby is a puppy still but around 50-60 pounds. Her aunt has a male that is HUGE! around 100 pounds of muscle. Still thinks he is the size of a poodle though. Please enlighten me.

Assuming the 100lb male is not overweight for his frame (there should be ribs and a distinct waist visible - if there isn't, the dog is one of the 80%+ of pets who're overweight or obese) - then this animal is very incorrect/oversized for his breed. That's bull-mastiff territory. A boxer is a medium sized dog that should be in the 65-75lb range for an adult male.

Your wife's old boxer, on the other hand, is perfectly well within the correct weight range for the breed (assuming likewise that his weight is correct for his frame).

Why the differences? Some breeders pay more attention than others to what the breed is supposed to be like.

Both dogs appear to have the same weight to size ratio. Her aunts dog in no way looks overweight. You can see outline of the ribs, waist is slimming. It is a pure breed just really big. Awesome with kids and REALLY playful. ???

I know about the Masiff breed that is the size dog I want.

OK :) Well, if he's not overweight (which is good) then he's just an abnormally large and incorrect dog. Unless there's a chance that he is a bull mastiff of course! LOL

How tall is he, btw? A male boxer shouldn't exceed about 25" (ground to withers).
