I agree with everyone here. Use the crate if you don't want a long time bed hog sleeping with you. I made the mistake with Buddy letting him sleep with us in the beginning, and now he is usually in our bed when we wake up in the morning. Kailee on the other hand sleeps in her own bed. I doubt in her last home, prior to our adoption, she was anywhere near the house let alone the bedroom. Therefore she doesn't try to get on the bed. I would use the crate for the first while.
P.S. What a nice idea Sabrina Jay has with the smelly receiving blanket. Such a thoughtful thing to do for the puppy and the new owners. Two Thumbs Up On That Idea!!!

What you could do is give the puppy and old shirt of yours to have in its crate. The shirt will have your scent on it and will comfort the puppy.

Jazmine has slept with us in our queen size bed since the first night. She is now 5 months and weighs 35 lbs. She loves to sprawl out. Me and my husband are both on the edge of the bed because of her. But I would NOT have it any other way. She loves to cuddle. I keep asking my husband when are you going to buy Jazmine a King size bed?
He just laughs....

I'm with Lisa..our 55lb baby sleeps in the bed with us and our 75lb pound baby now sleeps in the bed with us too (we just got him 2 weeks ago through rescue). Our queen bed is too small. My animals are part of my family though and I feel it is a personal decision on whether to crate. My sheltie is the only one of my 5 animals that does not get in the bed. He sleeps on the floor in front of his own fan..he is always hot..we've tried putting him on the bed and he wants off 5 minutes later. (Lucky for us) We had Lexi in the bed from day 1 at 9 weeks old and her and I have a special bond. But we did get up every couple of hours to take her out to go potty. It depends on how much you put into it...The one thing I learned though was enabling them to have a sense of security without you at a young age will benefit you later. I didn't crate but you might find this beneficial. Good luck with your new baby...they are wonderful :)
