My 5 month boxer Layla began limping and having pain after a game of tug with our 6 pound chihuahua. I took her to the emergency vet at midnight where she was very distressed when they examined her. The vet said she is a drama queen. They gave her a pain shot and more pain pills for today. She cries when getting up and is staying in one spot. Is this typical of a sprained or pulled muscle?

Yes..it sounds pretty typical. Drama Queen??? She's still a baby and i'm sure it hurts! As long as she is using the leg somewhat (i.e. putting some weight on it) for now, I would just try to make sure she rests that leg as much as possible, and if it doesn't improve in couple of days or so, a trip back to vet would prob be a good idea just to be sure she didn't do more than just pull a muscle. I'm sure she will be fine :)

She is up and walking although gingerly. She still seems somewhat out of it but I did give her a pain pill to keep her comfortable. I am just so attached to her I was scared it might be something else. Just like have a new baby

Thank you! I lost him on Dec 4th to a brain tumor. I miss him sooooo much ya know? Life is just not same without him...there is a HUGE hole in my heart. I hope to bring home a new baby soon, when the right time and right baby comes along. I remember when he was 5mths old and can't wait to do it all over again with another as it will be the only "medicine" that will make me feel better. Enjoy, and give a kiss on your baby's head for me :)
