I was petting Beau last night when I noticed a place that looks like a sore close to one of his hips. Of course I had to turn on a bright light and inspect it. It’s red, round, about the size of a dime and is barely raised above the skin. I put peroxide on it in case it’s some sort of infection and a little bit of blood came off onto the cloth. It doesn’t seem to be bothering him. I didn’t think much else of it until today. I started searching on the internet and came across various types of tumors that are common in boxers so now I’m paranoid. However, Beau’s spot doesn’t look like any of the photos of tumors I saw. I’m going to watch it closely until Monday and if it’s not better then I’ll take him to the vet. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’s just a bite or something. Please keep Beau (and his crazy mom) in your thoughts.

My mom looked at Beau's spot this weekend and she thinks it is a skin cancer because it is black. It's about the size of a peanut and I can pull it up and put my fingers on it so maybe it's not too serious. Beau has an appointment tomorrow at 4:30 so I will know something soon.

These things can be tricky. Ali had a raised lump on her front paw. The skin was gone and it started to grow. I took her to the vet and after a biospy it was benign. But your best option is to have it looked at and I wouldn't wait. Boxers are prone to all kinds of skin cancers. Sorry I don't mean to scare you but I know when the vet looked at Ali's he said she had to have it removed immediately. I was a bag of nerves. It may not be anything but it's better safe than sorry. Good Luck and pls. keep us posted. Keeping fingers and paws crossed.

I took Beau to the vet today (he was super well-behaved so I am very proud of him). The vet did an needle aspiration so I will know whether it is a mast cell tumor, hystiocytoma or something else completely within 5 days. I'll be worried until then.
