As some of you may know, in Ontario Canada, the government is trying to ban pit bulls. I personally would never own one but am against the government banning a breed. What will be next? The CKC along with many other organizations is against this legislation and has made suggestions for other legislation that does not ban a whole breed. It has become a problem for boxer owners like my mom who cannot walk her dog (a boxer) without being harrassed that it as a pit. Please help us. Here is a web site that has a petition against it. It doesn't matter where you live, just sign it. It worked in California!

Not to be negative here but many cities already have bans on Pitbulls so even if the province does not ban them what will stop the cities from it? The city I am moving to is just voting on a ban and Kitchener and Windsor are a few of the other cities that already have had bans in place :(

Yes many cities do have a ban in place, but if you take the time to read what is being proposed in the Province Wide ban I think you will note that it holds a larger bang to enforce bans on any breed. The issue is not that people do not realize something needs to be done, they are only asking that proper much needed laws are put in place, not a bandaid law. A breed specific ban isn't going to stop vicious dog attacks. People opposing this particular ban are only asking that laws be put in place that would deal with any dog deemed vicious and the owner, regardless of the breed, in other words, deal with the specific dog and owner, not a specific breed.
Frankly IMO if a person wants to train a dog to be vicious for whatever their reasoning is, banning Pitbulls will not stop this, as they will just find another breed and train it as such. So IMO it is best to include the owners in the laws, not just a breed.

Mark and I both signed - another 2 votes!

I seriously think this ban is rediculous! My argument is that an innocent Pit Bull can be brought up by a horrible owner that teaches it to be aggresive...then the dog IS aggressive and bites someone. Well, that someone is more than likely going to sue, the dog will more than likely be put down, and the owner will more than likely just get another one and the same thing will continue to happen. So, here is an innocent dog being put to sleep and the real criminal (the owner) gets to live on to do this to more animals.

I think the government is overlooking the real problem and that is animal cruelty; I do NOT think the answer is to ban a specific breed!
