greetings,

I have a 4.5 yr old male boxer, Not neutered. We have had him since he was a pup. He has not went potty in the house ever. House training was so fast and such a blessing. Tyson would literally welp if someone wasnt paying attention to hima nd he needed to go. Well In august 2007 I deployed To south korea for a yr ( that is where im writing from right now) and From that point on is when the change occured. My wife began telling me about Tyson peeing in the house often. Even after walks and playing outside he would come in and Pee.

We recently sold our home and They are now staying with friends while our new homes is being built. I have a 2.5 yr old son who is inseperable with tyson. Well at the new place tyson is peeing even more. there are no pets at Our friends house and No pets in the area.

Its really hard time right now because our friends are allowing My wife, son and dog to stay with them WHile im gone for the next yr and while our home is being built. My wifes concern is now we move into our brand new home tyson is gonna ruin it.

I assumed tyson was being abad boy because i had left. But ive left for 6-7 month at a time 2 other times in his life and this never happened.

i recnetly talked to him last night ( yes I called and the wife put me on spekare phone) tyson went crazy, howling, growling talking type puppy talk. barking.

i attributed to me being gone. We went to the vet and no bladder issues

My wifes patience is wearing thin. Her parents have offered to take tyson since they have a boxer as well. but we have had tyson since he was a baby and I cant imagine losing him, Plus my son loves him to death. But he is peeing all over our good friends xmas presents. My sons Little chair he sits on. various other places in thier home.

anyone ever go thru this? any ideas tips or help

we havent crated tyson in years. he has his crate that he hangs out in adn comes and goes as he pleases but we havent used it in terms of potty training or bad boy ever really

please any advice i can give to my wife

Have you considered neutering him? It sounds to me like he is marking and that is something that many times can be solved by neutering. I think it would definitely be worth trying.

When you were home, you were alfa. Maybe, since you left, he has decided he is alfa and is marking his territory. I would definately have him neutered to see if that stops his marking. Unfortunately, marking is hard to stop once it has started and been ongoing for a while, but I would definately try with the neutering.

Neutering him might help, but I think you also need to take a step back in the housebreaking department. Dogs don't generalize well, so this means while he was housetrained in your house, it doesn't mean he is going to be housetrained in anyone else's. :)

Neutering him is not cruel. What you are doing is cruel as you asking him to live a life of frustration. That is assuming that you are not allowing him to mate with every bitch in heat that he comes across. Neutering will not make him any less masculine. You can always replace his testicles with implants if that will make you feel better. I can assure you that he won't miss them. He will just live a much happier frustration free life. You will also greatly reduce his risk of prostrate cancer.

Whether you get him neutered or not, your wife needs to go back and start treating him like a puppy that she is house training. He needs to be confined to his crate when your wife can't watch him. In fact it would be a good idea to tether him too her with ha leash, so that he can't possibly pee without her noticing.

Good luck!

Neutering is not cruel, no tneutering is. Like Jan said, he is frusterated, his instincts are telling him to reproduce but his owners aren't letting him (which is a very very good thing.) Neutering him also reduces his chances of testicular cancer.
