I am taking a therapy course for canines this weekend and I was wondering how many people would comsider this. It is getting more and more popular amoungst animal owners (dog, cat and even farm animals...) So I was curious as to how many people here would take their little guys for therapy knowing that it could help post surgery, or other ailments...

pt

Hi...
My friend here in SF is actually a licensed PT and also a licensed canine PT. She is still looking for work to utilize her license. I do know there is a series of seminars you have to take. Usually they are located in different areas of the nation working with very well known veterinarians. It is costly, but she looooves it. Her dog (my niece) Nikki, had CCL replacement surgery and they did the wrong surgery on her. Now, my friend is working with her in the ocean to strengthen her knee so she can play again.
I think it's a great idea and honestly, I would always use her with Tomi for stretching him after he played for hours outside.
If your going to do it, more power to you:) goood luck~

There is lady that lives rather close to me that does therapy on people as well as some pets. YES, it does help. I at the moment do not see a professional for my Boxers but i do give Zeus rub downs and messages. They seem to help and he doesn`t mind the extra pampering. I also (though not an expert) have done some message methods on a horse using DMSO which helped to loosen his joints. He had limited usage in his forlegs and once I started to work with him daily, the regular caretakers of the farm saw improvement in him. However, he did not survive when he caught pneumonia during the winter months. DMSO is a product that needs to be handled carefully (in case anyone here tries it for their pets). Anything on you or on the pet will be soaked right into the bloodstream and can do great harm if improperly handled.

I give thumbs up to the idea of pet therapy. I see them use swimming tanks on tv all the time to help dogs recover from hip surgery.

Lancelot is around 8 y.o. and had a surgery on each knee.
In the begining of 2004 we found out a place with a pool and a PT here in NY where we bring him every week for 30'.
He's not really fond of it, but we saw a lot of improvement on his walking and he lost some weight too (from 104 to 90 lbs).
I thing the idea is excellent and I congratulate you.
Wishing you success.
