Super Boxer
It's unfortunate that the past few days there have been dog attacks involving boxers! Well, there was another one in Costa Mesa, CA just this weekend! Apparently a couple was walking down the street when a two-year-old boxer "attacked" them. I believe that there was more to this story than was reported. Maybe the dog was provoked, or teased, but whatever, it seems that boxers are going to be under the microscope with the media! The dog was taken by animal control and its fate will be decided. Most of the time, it's just quarantined for two weeks, then released. Now I suppose every time there is another dog attack, the press will make sure it identifies the perpetrator as a boxer!

One thing we must all remember about animals is that their behavior is learned through their owners. If we neglect them, treat them cruely or abuse them, then they will be aggressive. I believe it's up to us to make sure that this type of treatment doesn't exist. If we see any of the above, we should report it immediately. People end up getting hurt and it gives all of us dog lovers a bad rap.

Please, everyone do their part!!!!

Wow, I can't believe this...AGAIN?

This really concerns me. I posted a reply just a couple days ago in reference to being a new boxer owner and the reason I chose the breed besides being beautiful they seemed friendly and liked people. I can't beleive that in just a week there has been 3 attacks involving boxers. I again truly believe that these dogs were not born this way and that it has a lot to do with owners as well or if they are being provoked in any way...It is just sad because everyone is going to look at us and our boxers and assume that they are going to do the same thing. It is not helping matters that the press I am sure is going to muliply this 10 times what it should be and not report the whole story. I feel for the people that have been attacked because I myself have been attacked (not by a boxer :)) and I couldn't judge every dog of that same breed for what "one" did. We all need to stick together and support our babies. My prayers go out to the people as well and hope they are ok.

To Iluvmywhiteboxerlexus:
Please don't get freaked out about these attacks!! I have 2 boxers and 3 children and all of them are best buds. In my opinion the dog's owners need to be quarantined and possibly euthanized! (did I think that or did I say that??)
As chickie always says: There are no bad dogs only bad owners. I strongly believe that dogs that attack have in 99% of the cases either been mistreated, neglected or trained to attack. So, just love your pup, give her lots of attention and (of course) train her and you AND ESPECIALLY your son will have the best friend you could ever imagine. (Just ask my 9 year old daughter..:))

I am not getting freaked out, It just is odd that before I brought my Lexus home that I heard nothing about Boxers and attack but just in the last week it has been 3 but my boxer will get all the love we have to give always. I stated in the previous post that I also agree that it is the owners, or neglected, abandoned, and mistreated boxers/dogs that do these kind of attacks. I also agree that the owners should suffer and be penalized because if you notced in these attacks these were dogs that were loose, not with their owners taking the time to walk them and give them attention like all of us. I love animals and I will be the first to confront someone who I feel is abusing, neglecting, fighting whatever the case may be. Just love our babies...lovicon

Lynda Marlena you probably weren't visiting "Boxer boards" much before you got your puppy. Boxerworld has members all over the world and what we see reported in our own areas might not make it to another's area. But because we are all interested in Boxers *we* report these things to each other.

You might find the same concerns on any other board - Dalmation, Labrador as well as Rottie or GSD. But it *is* true that our loves, Boxers are often mistaken for and lumped together with Pitbulls.

RE: Nanabear

I understand what you are saying about being linked with pitbulls. Just an example that I encountered at petsmart...My husband, son and I were standing in the check out line with Lexus and these 2 men were staring a lot at her...They asked if she was female and if I was going to breed her and I said NO for what...She is a companion dog only. They said well she is beautiful, I have never seen a Pit like her before and I said well I guess not because she is a Boxer, there is a difference if you take the time and look. That has happened a couple times so far...I am glad there is a place like this I can learn and get advice and meet others who care as much as I go. :)

upswing in boxers...

IMHO, the popularity of boxers is largely to blame for so-called attack boxers.

people who know nothing about the breed buy them and use them for guarding, tying them up alone outside in extreme temperatures and training them to be mean.

this happens more when the breed is popular. people stop caring about breed standard and temperament and go for the money.

these dogs are delicate and extremely people positive, just like Rottweilers. they're easy to train to do anything because it is their nature to please their masters and protect them.

notice that you're unlikely to ever see attack Basenjis. they don't care about their owners enough to take anything like training very seriously. (no slight on Basenjis...they're just not companions and they're not delicate.)
